deejaid
We joined the local club recently and as luck would have it our neighbor was moving and selling their old golf cart. A little negotiating and I now have a stock 2001 Club Car. Well.....you guys with the carts know how this is. Everyone seems to have their cart pimped to the nines. Ours looks like a jalopy when parked with the other carts. We need to Count's Kustom our cart or something. This cart is strictly a kid mover to ferry them up to the pool, I'm still a walking golfer, but we need to spruce this thing up a bit. deejaid
Thanks for the tips guys. I've looked into motor upgrades but I think my wife would be happier if it looked newer, not faster. Although, I'd love to have more power, this thing is slowwwwwww. And didn't realize larger wheels make it faster. Didn't really think about that but it makes sense. Has anyone painted the plastic body of their cart successfully? GolfJunkie302
Or change the gearing and wheel size. Larger wheels are definitely a good option — you just have to choose your priority! Changing the gears to raise the top speed will definitely cause you to lose low end power. Same to a degree with the wheels but less so I think. It shouldn't be an issue unless its used at extremely hilly courses and what not. OP: I'm no help with the paint, but another popular option would be speakers (specifically for the kids) since you prefer to walk when you play. You could also get a rear seat attachment in place of the basket and club holders. deejaid
We got the cart cheap and like I said, it's for going back and forth to the pool, driving to the range and gym, so it's all level, no hilly drives. I bought and installed the rear seat already so we can haul the whole family. I think the next upgrades would be body and wheel upgrades to make it look a bit more modern. I thought about a sound system but our drive is literally 3 minutes by cart to the pool so we'd maybe hear one song. I think it is a good idea but I believe the looks need improvement first. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Vinyl wrap kits for specific models can be had but I know you are a capable DIY guy so buying a bulk piece would probably be cheaper and offer many more finish options. My parents are currently in the process of deciding on a wrap for their beach house buggy, I'll update with their progress. Without spending $1500 on a new motor platform, what savvy Spies have shared about top speed vs low-end torque with regard to wheel size is correct. But there is plenty of info out there on the subject to help you get it dialed in correctly for your needs. Safety is priority one when hauling kiddos, so remember that when debating between low and slow _or_ high riding speed demon. The statistics on golf cart accidents are both gruesome and sobering. For a quick general accessory option lesson check out: https://www.buggiesunlimited.com/ My suggestion for a first upgrade would be a flip option rear seat (since you plan to continue hoofing it on the course). With the seat down you have a flat bed hauler; and if you're carrying a few extra passengers just flip it up to comfortably accommodate 4 adults. Seat covers are another relatively inexpensive way to freshen up an older buggy and show some personality (fabric material also won't get as hot sitting under the Sun). I'm also a fan of folding windshields if your setup doesn't already have one. If there's any chance you'll be driving it at night, headlights (at the very least) are mandatory. My wife thinks we should have searched awhile to find a nicer one, but for the price and convenience (didn't need to have trucked to us) I just made a deal for this one. I figure I can spend another $1500 on it in body panels or paint, new wheels and upholstery and we'll be into it for just over $3K. It's really been great to have as we have joined the local club and between going to the club's restaurant, pool, range, gym, etc instead of driving into town, we have barely put any miles on our van this summer.
