@GolfSpy MPR  did the bolt fit inside of the shaft inner diameter? And you used some sort of epoxy/glue to golf it in there?

Yep, that's exactly it. Standard golf epoxy.

Well there are 2 threads that now have great instructions to DIY your own SuperSpeed sticks.

I changed my SuperSpeed sticks into ONE Stick. My design features removable weights.

Here is my parts list and instructions for the one I built.

GoodWill:

  • driver - $2.99

Lowes:

  • 3/8" ID Fender Washers (100ct) - $16.00
  • 1/4x20x12" threaded rod - $2.00
  • thumb nuts - $1.00
  • JB Weld - $5.00
  • Plasti-Dip - $6.00

Total Cost: $33.00 *(plus some leftover supplies for another stick)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the driver head off of the shaft at the base of the shaft.
  2. Cut the threaded rod to approximately 5"-6" long.
  3. Using the scale, weigh the shaft and the cut piece of threaded rod. Record that value.
  4. Using the scale, weigh 1 washer. Knowing the weight of the 1 washer and the weight of the shaft & threaded rod, we can determine how any washers are needed to meet the the total weight for the light, medium, and heavy sticks.
  5. Using the information from SuperSpeed the green total weight should be about 13% lighter than your driver, blue is 5% lighter, and red is 15% heavier. I have a TM M6 (324.4g) so i used (10) washers for green, (12) washers for blue, and (17) washers for red.
  6. Coat about half of the threaded rod (start from the end that was cut bc the threads may be messed up) in JB Weld and insert into the driver shaft. Set aside to dry.
  7. I used JB Weld to glue each washer to one another for each weight set.
  8. Once the glue had been set (abt 24hrs), I used  a piece of wire to dip each weight set into the plasti-dip can. To dry each dipped weight set, i screwed (3) screws through a board to act as a minimal touching drying rack. About 3 to 4 coats are needed to get a good coating.
  9. Add 1 thumb nut to the threaded rod, add a weight set, and add another thumb nut.

***I need to add a picture of the final design....

DONE.

Change weight sets for changing swing weights.

My simple build.  Old TM driver shaft, 4mm phillips screws (to match the number of washers)  16 , 21, and 26 washers for 253g, 295g, and 336g total club weight of the shaft and washers .

Used a small lock washer at the head of the screw, small fender washers at the top and bottom (1/16" hole x 5/16" dia), and big  (3/16" hole x 1 1/4"dia) for the weight.  8g each.

TM Fujikura XLR8  Reg flx from M2 driver.  Might switch to Senior flex.

You won't find clubs matching the weight of these.  The lightest one is much lighter than a regular club, and the heaviest one is somewhat heavier than a regular club.  It's more about the club length and swing weight than the overall weight or anything else I reckon.

This is my attempt at recreating the SuperSpeed clubs.  I'm pretty happy with the result actually.

$45 .00 for the shafts
$17.20 for the grips
$16.50 for the shaft adapters
$20.00 approx. for the various washers I used to match the overall weights.

Roughly AUD$100 all up.  So, probably around USD$3.50 if you're not subject to the "Australia tax" 🙄.

The actual SuperSpeed clubs are $329.95 on Amazon AU.

My son's set had a washer come loose (at the top of the stack, so it was sliding up the shaft). A dab of epoxy fixed that. His set is also due for a replacement of the protective pool noodles I wrap around the washers to soften inadvertent blows 🙂

Anyone have results (swing speed) to report?

Is everyone using the SuperSpeed protocols and charting? I'd be interesting in the results as well.

I thankfully only cracked the LCD screen. I called the company and they sent another one free of charge, but it took about three months to get the screen.

If you haven't figured it out by now, I just like making things. It becomes an obsession at times. I made the first speed stick already but then got side tracked by building my golf practice room. Here are images of the heavy one completed. Solid stainless steel weight, drilled out to the shaft diameter and epoxied.  Painted Black to go with the Snake eyes ferrule.

It helps that I work for a company that has a 120,000 sq/ft manufacturing shop. One of our machinist whipped this out for me in less than 10 minutes. Had the shaft, grip, and ferrule laying around. Cost $0.

My wife wants me to make her a noodle board. I had to look that up. I'll get that knocked out, then we will see what comes up next.

I was inspired to make a set of these about a month ago using the stacked washers epoxied together and dipped.  I used flex seal dip because I couldn't find the other stuff at the store.  It worked fine although I didn't account for the added weight of the double dip for better coverage so my overall weights are off a bit.  All thread epoxied in the end of the shaft and washers with a wingnut hold the weights in place.  I don't have an accurate swing speed device so I don't know if I am getting faster but the daily swings are keeping my back loose!

I read this post and thought, what heck I can do that. Ended up costing me under $50 to complete the whole set.  Went a bit under weight wise on the washers and used some lead tape at the top to get them close before dipping the in plasti-dip. They are a tad bit over but not by much.  I thought they turned out pretty good when all was said and done only took me about a week to knock them out.  Now I just need to start using them and see if I can not slice everything into the water.

Hi Guys,

Great inspiration! I build some weights, but for some strange reason my PRGR reads some 15 mph slower when swing the weights than my driver... The swings where absolutely faster, but yeah the read was way off.

Have any of you had that issue as well?

TIA / Ho Lee

Anyone have a spreadsheet or something to keep track of DIY superspeed data?

If you just want to track max speed per club by week (which is what was used in the MGS testing threads) it should be pretty simple to make it yourself or you can go to this post and download the one they used

Curious, do you think you could just pour sand into the shafts to get the correct weights and then plug them on the top and bottom?

I don't think that would work out for a few reasons.

One, I don't know that you could get weights heavy enough with just sand. Tungsten powder, maybe.

Two, the relative swing weights would be all wrong. While the sticks don't necessarily need to play/feel a certain swingweight, having weight up and down the entire shaft wouldn't accurately put the weight where it needs to be. Imagine swinging a piece of rebar and how different that feels from a golf club.
