New iron review after 2 rounds

Went from my old Eye 2s to 716 AP1s. First round was a 77 and tonights round was an all time low of 75. Hit high % of fairways and much higher GIR then normal. I think going to stiff shafts took my miss left out of the equation. Old clubs after a couple misses left with the Pings, I started compensating and then my miss was right. Mind games with the softer shaft.

My first shot waa a layup 6i that barely got off the ground. Got that oh crap feeling Next hole I hit a beautiful 5i off the tee. After a few more shots I was getting lower then my normal ball flight which I wasnt loving, but as we bonded and my normal flight was coming back. Feel was a bit softer than my Eye 2s which was one reason I went with the 716 AP1s. Struggled with the 8i both nights and not sure why.

After my first round I got talking to one of the frequent twilight players and he said he sold his AP1s as he couldnt work the ball. I hit a couple cuts and draws and they seemed ok. Tonight I had to play a big draw and a big cut and I had zero issues other then it will take more time to get acquainted and fine tune.

Ap1s are stronger lofts which is great. Hitting 5i over 4i or whatever played a role in my lower scores as did stiff shafts. I think the stiff shaft is the bigger stroke saver and I would bet I shave a point or two from my handicap with these irons.

Do I think these clubs are better then my Eye 2s? No! I do think the stiffer shaft is the difference.

Everybody at the club said I should have got the AP2s in the 716 or 714. I dont feel that Im a consistent enough ball striker to play them is why I balked at that to begin with. It does have me thinking though.

At 51 years old I wish I woukd have got some stiff or probably even x stiff shaft years ago. Even though my swing isnt perfect, Im sure the shaft waa a big reaaon I sprayed the ball at times. One of my negative tendencies is to not follow through. With these clubs I have to or else.

No idea if these clubs are more forgiving than my Pings as I feel I would have to be using the same shafts to figure that out. Just from the feel if the head, I would say that they are comparable.

No regrets and looking forward to move sub 80 rounds with the goal for next year getting to a hdcp of 7 or less which is very doable.

Excellent!! glad to hear it s working, another reason for the lefts could have been the large offset the Eye2s have. The clubs are great no doubt it, sounds like you are a golfer that just needed less offset with the shafts.

Thanks guys...I've worked my butt off the last year to basically go from a life long bogey golfer and taking a 12 year absence from the game, to what I hope will be somewhere in the between and 8 and 9 the next update as long I don't blow up with some big scores.
