kevin1889
I've been hearing Larry Rinker on PGA Tour Radio talk about the Wright Balance method and upper/mid/low core swing models. I was intrigued by the concepts and looked into some of the YouTube videos. It's all highly technical, which I tend to like. The wright balance website is frustratingly bad and incomplete. For a concept that has been around for almost 10 years I'm actually shocked at how underdeveloped it is, it makes me question the validity. But, then you've got Rinker who talks about it constantly on national radio so something doesn't seem to add up. Curious if anyone has experience with this methodology that can share your experience, or if there's a way to look up where Wright Balance fitters may be found across the country so I can get more info in person. cnosil
Hadn't heard of it before you posted. Looked through one of the online ebooks and a review of the process. I will probably read more of the ebooks when I get home. From what I have quickly the methodology seems sounds an probably explains why teachers need to understand lots about swing mechanics and how a persons physical makeup impacts the swing. In the end it is another swing methodology that will revolutionize golf: stack and tilt, a swing, X factor, etc. Each aha their merits and given time a player could benefit. DaveP043
When I read about a method that has invented its own vocabulary, and that requires you to visit one of their fitters to determine which "type" of body you have before you can get proper instruction, I'm skeptical. Apparently Wright Balance divides players among 3 types, Lower, Middle and Upper core, and has used a different PGA pro as an example of these types. They seem to look at differences between these players, and will apply a slightly different system to students of the differing body types. Yet there are things that every one of the pros do, no matter of their body type. In my view, its probably more effective to work towards the things that every good player does, rather than to find the differences. That doesn't mean that I think there's a single "proper" way to swing the club, I know that's not true. I guess having written this stuff, I don't trust any golf swing "system". Wright balance seems to use 3 systems, but it still seems like "system instruction" to me. kevin1889
Thanks for the thoughts. I guess the part that keeps me skeptical is that Rinker has a fairly large forum on the PGA Tour Radio XM channel, yet it seems the adoption/buzz of this teaching is very minimal online.
