GB13
MLA, Bettinardi, and Toulon. These are much firmer feeling because they don't have inserts. If the putter is a milled face with no insert it will be firmer. All the putters you hit had an insert. jaskanski
Define "firm"? Some may interpret firm as "clicky" or dare I say it "harsh". Not exactly qualities usually sought after in putting, however there are some tips to avoid the softer feel. 1. Avoid heavier head designs - something under 300g should be used if possible. Could be tricky with modern mallet designs. 2. Avoid steel - either carbon or stainless. Pings original Manganese bronze has a pretty firm feel to it, as does the good old Bullseye. 3. Use a steel shaft with a slim grip - heads with the shafts nearer to the centre of the face will tend to feel firmer. 4. Avoid inserts of any kind unless they are ceramic. 5. Consider changing your ball to a firmer design
cnosil
I would agree, what do you mean by “firm Inserts can be firmer feeling and non inserts can be softer. Multiple things go into the feeling of a putter like material, Face thickness and milling patterns. I find that most insert putters don't allow me to feel where on the face the ball makes impact. Is that what you want? If so, you just have to keep searching, seems like they are becoming fewer and fewer as most people want soft dull sounding putters Driver: G400 Max 9* w/ KBS Tour Driven Fairway: TS3 15* w/Project X Hzardous Smoke Hybrids: 915H 21* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype 915H 24* w/KBS Tour Graphite Hybrid Prototype Irons: TR20V 6-11 w/Vizard TR20-85 Graphite Wedge: 54/12D, 60/8M w/:Accra iWedge 90 Graphite Putter: TM-180 Testing: Backups: Milled Collection RSX 2, mFGP2, Futura 5W Member: MGS Hitsquad since 2017

I'm currently using a Cameron Circa 62 #6, and a Bridgestone Tour RX. Thinner faces, and less aggressive milling. The carbon putter that was in most wanted testing has a nice ting sound at impact. txgolfjunkie
My biggest advice is just avoid inserts and large grips. In my experience, the grip plays a huge part in the feel of the putter. The smaller/firmer the grip, the firmer the feel. Yes, there are firm putters out there like the Odyssey O-Works and some of the older Bettinardi's, but if you put a grip like a Flat Cat or Superstroke Slim 3.0 or GP Tour SNSR on a putter, it will mute the feel of the putter. Put a Ping man grip or Lamkin deep etch grip, and it will firm up the feel/give you a better feel of strike location. Next time you're at a golf shop, try to find the same putter but with different grips and see if that makes a difference. cnosil
I find people's perception of feel/sound interesting. Several people in this thread describe the. O-works face as firm. For me there is no feeling off the face and it feels mushy and not firm at all. Probably need to come up with better descriptions for feel/sound than soft or firm. They all felt so soft, It was like I couldn't really feel the strike. Are there any putters with a firmer feel? Off the top of my head and based on my opinion: Taylor made spider tour black PXG gunboat Bettinardi with the honeycomb milling Toulon putters Those first two may have inserts but felt firmer though the PXG had the least feedback. Generally I stay away from insert putters for the same reason, though the Toulon putters have the sharpest feedback when you stray from the milling in the middle of the face, almost a tinny aluminum response.
