Stack and Tilt

Recommended Posts

This had to be the most well thought out program on swinging a golf club. The book ‘ videos ‘ on line info covered every single aspect of their method. Is this teaching still relevant? What happened with stack and tilt. I rarely find anything current on it, which is a shame

I struggle with the theory that one can read a book and learn how to swing. Yes, you can read a book that demonstrates the proper way to swing but I doubt you can learn how to do it just by reading a book. You still have to have the athletic ability to do it. Golf by definition an athletic endevour. The swing is more athletic than reading a book. By this theory everyone should be 18 under par every time. You just need to practice your own personalized swing to improve.

It's branding for the “reverse pivot” style of a swing. Weight stays mostly on the front foot during the backswing.

Body then releases around itself and rather than falling backwards, it rotates back around that front foot.

Lots of swing approaches come and go. Some still have devoted followers. Stack and tilt was a love it or hate it kind of approach. Like you, haven't heard much about it in 6 or 7 years.

I would say The Golfing Machine was more well thought out.

From what I've read, a lot of S&T instructors have moved away from that system.  Apparently the originators have chosen to retain some elements of their method even when newer and better data collection systems proved those elements to be incorrect.  Consequently, they lost a certain amount of credibility.

I think Eric Axely on tour used S&T, but has moved away from it.

The thing is, no tour players got better doing S&T and several got decidedly worse. Not to mention it put an awful lot of strain on the lower back, which gives any golfing method a pretty short life span

Stack and Tilt?

Did it go the way of "square to square?"

Or better yet, the"Natural Golf Method?"

Some day we'll figure out that unless one is a genetic freak,

hitting the golf ball consistently well is an urban myth.

Still on that elusive hunt for a 3 wood that I'm able to hit - I don't know why, I crush the 5 wood and it's really a 4 wood anyway.

IIRC Aaron Baddeley is still using a variation of the S&T...hasn't been so hot for him but he's coming around.

Baddeley was a very good putter when he broke out on the tour, but he seems to have lost it.  I watched him recently, and if he could putt like he used to, he might make a comeback.

I remember Rich Gedman of the Red Sox completely sabotaging his own baseball career

by his slavish devotion to the since discredited Charlie Lau / Walt Hriniak 'weight shift" hitting method.

Unlike golf, there is one ABSOLUTE method for hitting a baseball--The Ted Williams Science of Hitting Method.

My boy was a laser show with the aluminum Little League bat once I indoctrinated him into the Williams technique.

Good Lord, could it really have been that long ago?  He's 44.

And I'm,...oh s***.

Sean Foley's players on tour kind of have a stack and tilt look to them to me. Badeley went all in on it and quit after a year I think? Correct me if I'm wrong on that last part though. It just looks like it'd stress that lead leg and hip to me. The golf swing isn't a natural motion but s&tseems all that much more unnatural...
