does anybody still make aluminum/bronze iron heads?  who?  or why not?  In the past some club mfr offered irons and wedges made from alloy of alum and bronze, offering a softer feel for more touch.  Is this still true, better feel from alum/bronze?  Callaway Great Big Bertha in 1996.  Gary Player wedges.  ???

Drv: PXG 0211, Evnflo Riptide CB Senior, Callaway 454 TI (2004) 10 and an 11, regular flex.

3W: Callaway Steelhead Xr  Tensei Blue CK 55 gram senior. TM Burner Superfast 3.0 M flex.

5W : Titleist TSi 1 on Aldila Ascent 40 regular flex.

Driving Iron: Mizuno MP 18 MMC 3 18 degree, on Mamiya Recoil reg flex.

4 iron:  forged Mizuno Fly-Hi, 24 degree hollow body.

6 - PW: Ping I 500, on Recoil reg flex.

Gap: 52/9 GFF Mizuno S5, Lob: 60/6 GFF Mizuno T7.

Sand: Ancien Regime 56/12 Hogan Sure Out, Apex shaft. Heavy sole.

Chipper:  Ancien Regime Don Martin "Up n In" bronze or copper. 🙂

Putter: Odyssey Stroke Lab "R" Ball, face balanced, 2 piece, multi material shaft.🙃

Welcome to MGS! I don't think does for fear of poor durability and instead just offer raw carbon steel instead of plated to get the softer feel. You may find some putters that still do though

Welcome to MGS from NE Ohio! I think one of the reasons you don't see the alloy you alluded to is about 18 -20 years ago the companies ran into environmental issues and to convert to new standards was not cost effective. I know they tried using the Maquilladora Plants along the border of mexico but that sort of fizzled out.

Hi one0wonder in Austintown.  I graduated from now defunct Rayen HS north side of Ytown.  My 2 bros grad from South Hi, or, as we pronounced it, Soufff. Now live in San Diego. Just a few miles from corp hq of Callaway, Titleist, Cobra.

 

I know that BeCu went out of production because berrylium is deadly.  But alum and bronze, are they too polluting for current emissions, or is the club so soft that as you say, durability is poor?

 

BTW my witb would be similar if I were to buy new today.  Love the Callaways.  I have a great, old, Hogan Sure out sand,  And a Ginty 2 Stan Thompson BeCu sand also.  I use the Hogan in sand, and the Ginty near the green.

 

Is the Ytown muni 9 hole course still open, on Gypsy at Elm on the border with Liberty Twnshp?  I last visited Ytown in 1997.

I actually just found a set of Snake Eyes Ultimate Design irons on eBay that I used to play a long time ago. They are aluminum bronze heads. The heads are in great shape, just need some cleaning, so I assume the durability is fine on these.
