Scotty Cameron Paint Fill

Hi all

 

Just thought I would share my current DIY which is paint filling my Scotty Cameron Studio Style Newport 2.. I could only find a base pic for a 2.5 though, however only difference as you know is the hosel really. Im going for a black and white them to keep it clean simple and looking smart hopefully...

First coat of black on the sole...

First coat of white is on... Had to dig out all the original paint from th cavity and "SCOTTY" from the hosel as you could see if under the white paint

Little tip to make it look more glasslike? Do an acetone wash on the paintfill after it'd fairly dry. Flood the area with clean acetone for just a second and let it dry. Once it's completely dry, then wipe the excess with a dampened acetone rag. They'll be smooth as silk

That's what creates the gloss? I always thought that was clear coat paint or something.....I'm thinking of doing my own Scotty and maybe the new Slotline soon.

The acetone wash is the easiest way to get it smooth as silk. Any good quality paint (I prefer Tamiya X-Acrylics) in gloss or their translucents, will result in a glossy finish. The acetone wash is for making it as smooth as possible. The glossiness comes from the paint. I usually do a clear coat on top because it makes the paint look deeper (same principle as painting a car, the clearcoat is to make the paint look deeper, not more glossy). But the paint used determines glossiness. The acetone wash is to make it smooth.

thanks for the tips... just put a white Iomic on it and it looks the goods now... the hardest thing of call was getting the paint fill in the dots smooth..

 

RB7 - wouldnt then light coat of acetone strip all the paint out ?

Nope, been doing it for a few years now and it never has. You flood it for a brief second. The flash time of acetone is very short. Afterward, you let it dry then clean it up with acetone around it. When you wipe it with acetone, it doesn't remove it. Same principle here.
