Club Paintfill

Recommended Posts

I am really interested in removing the paint from some of my irons and giving them a custom paint fill. I was curious what people are using to remove the current paint and any setup/tools needed to successfully refresh the clubs look with new paint!

I like Citrus Strip. It's an orange gel paint stripper. Put it on, let it sit for a couple minutes, then use an old toothbrush. Super easy.

Echoing what Shankster said. Acetone and QTips will do the trick.

It's kind of a no-brainer. But if you search the forum or on the web there's a ton of paint fill posts.

I tried acetone with a black cobra trusty rusty and the acetone didn’t really work. I needed to use some paint stripper and that seemed a little more effective. Did you use industrial acetone or just 100% acetone nail polish remover?

It was pure acetone. Picked it up at Wal-Mart. Just a warning, I tried to buy 2 quarts and they would not let me. Had to buy one quart at a time! But, you can buy a whole gallon if you want to just fine! What the heck is the world coming too?!

Whew, sure glad your device did not do one of those auto-spell/check things and leave the "rs" off 🤣.

My exact reaction. Every time I sandblast something, I'm reminded of how pretty bare metal is.

Ended up going with citristrip. Tried lab grade acetone, since I'm a chemist. It wouldn't work simply by rubbing and with PXG irons I couldn't soak the head for fear of something going wrong with the screws, etc.

Half hour with citristrip and you can scratch out the paint. A few hours of letting the gel sit and it just falls off.

Thanks for all the help!
