yeah, not sure. but thats part of my confusion, maybe because I had paid for it previously? idk.

Don't know for sure but maybe there are two services offered; one high level (free) and a more detailed (fee) fittings? That would seem to make more sense otherwise how do they make profit?

For fun, I've used several on-line fitting tools and none come up with the same "best match".

Interestingly, the Wilson D9 was my first option - I have the D7 now and I find it WAY too light, and it didn't feel or perform great for me until I added some lead tape.

The LTDx Max is option 2. Both recommend stiff shafts, and I play an R flex right now. I have picked up some swing speed so I suppose this is the perfect excuse to go hit some drivers on a monitor next week!

Ha! I did my “free fitting” today on True Golf Fit and the one thing that stood out was the smash factor was just 1.38. SO odd that it was so low. 114 mph swing speed for 158 ball speed. Yikes! Really odd numbers.

I had actually seen that it was free back on 2/23 so I gave it a shot. It suggested the Wilson Staff D9 as my primary and the Cobra LTDx Max as my secondary option. I use a Callaway Mavrik right now and I am actually getting fit for all new clubs in a few weeks. I will make sure to try both of them out and see how they are.

These were my results as well. I did it a second time just to see if entering the same information would yield the same results, and the Wilson was still option one, but Ping G410 lst was the second option. Was actually surprised I didn’t get two completely different options so I guess it could be a starting point for someone in looking for a new driver.

For some reason I keep getting the following error:

The website encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later.
Error: Call to a member function getValue() on null in Drupal\mgs_recommendations\GenerateShaftRecommendation->getShaftRecommendation() (line 186 of modules/custom/mgs_recommendations/src/GenerateShaftRecommendation.php).

I already have a login and previously purchased a couple fittings to see what it recommended so I wonder if that has anything at all to do with it??? I'm running Windows 10 w/ Edge.

So complaints aside, I think it is another good starting point to give someone an idea where to start, or at least get them a good option of they are buying of the rack without a fitting.

I'd like it if the numbers were a little better explained, in that the "+11 yards", isn't what you would gain using that driver, but given the launch and spin conditions it shows you, that driver was +11 yards longer VS the average of the database.

Last night I did the TrueGolfFit driver fitting. Interesting results, and not that surprising. Their No. #1 recommended driver has me picking up over 17 yards in distance and better accuracy and dispersion. I'm sure with all of the data points they have collected the drivers they recommended are probably good choices for my game. I would, however, like to know more about their methodology and how they reached their conclusions (driver recommendations), especially since they don't have my actual swing "numbers." I know that with all of the data and statistics available these days, probability and predictability can produce outstanding results in many scenarios.

That 17 yards is compared to all the drivers in their pool of data used by similar swings to the data you entered. It isn't necessarily 17 yards over your current gamer. But what it is saying is that the driver it recommends was that much better then an average driver for your input.  It might only be 4 yards better then what you have or the same even. Or the opposite, it could be more then 17 yards. Its a good starting point.

... Reminds me a little of golf ball fittings, specifically Bridgestone. "Based on thousands of fittings your ball is ..." had me in the RX which is just a terrible ball for me. I depend on my short game to go low when swinging well and for damage control when swinging poorly and the RX just had little green side control for me.

... I just did a fitting with Callaway a few weeks ago and the Rogue ST Max was a much better fit than the LS. I needed the additional spin of the ST Max and it also had much better dispersion. The LS had an inconsistent trajectory window as well as poor dispersion and I imagine both because it was spinning under 2k and for 95-97mph swing speed something closer to 2400 produces better performance. But the LS was my recommended driver, and my fitting was Callaway only so I have little doubt other mid spin heads like the Cobra LTD X, Stealth and TSi3 would be a better fit.

... I am just skeptical of how index, swing speed, AOA and Tempo alone can dial in a driver. Spin, trajectory and forgiveness for specific misses seem like extremely important parameters for a driver fitting. That said, I get it could be valuable for the average completely ignorant off the rack typical buyer but for advanced knowledgable players it just didn't work for me.

... I have a Stealth fitting Monday and am looking forward to how it compares to my current driver and the ST Max. I fell in love with the AD-IZ6 shaft and may book a fitting with True Spec to dial in the perfect head as I think the TSi3 and LTD X will also be contenders. And of course I may just end up just buying the AD-IZ6 for my current driver.

I’m making an assumption that the hashtag “freefitting” is a swipe at Club Champion, True Spec, TXG, etc, so I’ve asked the question to MGS on the Twitter posts: “Do y’all see this “fitting” as equal to one from CC/TS/TXG, or is this just a “starting point”?”

So far no one from MGS has answered that question, and I find that curious.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't even considered that. Works perfectly now.

As others have stated though, I'm not so sure about the algorithm, at least not without LM data. Put in my info using a "Medium Tempo" and it suggested the Gen 4 PXG drivers (X was Opt.1, and XT was Opt.2). Out of curiosity, I redid it using a "Slow Tempo" and got the PXG O211 (Opt.1) and Wilson D9 (Opt.2). I found those recommendations alone to be a bit intriguing, but what really got my attention was the claimed difference in Ball Speed. 158MPH w/ Medium Tempo, and 149MPH w/ Slow Tempo. Wasn't aware that tempo alone could have such an impact on ball speed. ???

I've used LM data in the past to get recommendations I thought were much closer, but my swing has changed quite a bit since then so that's why I didn't use the data this go around. I'll be interested to see what my results are after a TrackMan session.

It came back with some results for my numbers. Mizuno ST-Z and Mizuno ST-X were the top 2. Have to say they were two that I did not hit while I was killing time at PGASS yesterday before heading to the airport. It would not have made a difference. For whatever reason my swing was completely out of sorts yesterday.

Great point!  I get that this is a tier 1 level club fitting app but it would seem the "expert mode" would add the additional parameters you noted.

... Expert mode didn't do much for me but I am probably a unique fit anyway. At 97mph everything says s-flex but my timing is just better with r-flex. The AD-IZ in S/R which h is right between the two was amazing. And then there is sound/feel because a loud metallic sounding driver is also no bueno. I tried to like a Ping LS but the sound/feel was so bad I sold it after one round. Of course looks at address when actually hitting balls is huge too. If it looks closed to too big or too long face to rear I am probably not going to hit it well and it is hard to tell from a picture. And finally trajectory can be kinda nebulous as I like a high trajectory with a shallow AOD but can live with mid/high. One of the things I didn't like about the Rogue ST LS was a straight mid to maybe even mid/low trajectory and I know I would start changing things to get a higher trajectory. My fitter didn't mid the mid trajectory but I had hit the regular ST very straight with a nice high trajectory and after a push and a slight pull correction he took it from me and handed me something else.
