NFL thread! What are you thinking?

So I guess the Lions are about to make a pretty good signing this week. They signed a DE then dropped him the next day. It sounds like Khalil Mack may be heading our way. It's a long shot, but clearly with the moves that just happened there is a big signing about to happen.

I heard on the radio that some guys were predicting the Steelers to go to the Super Bowl...I nearly crashed my truck from rolling my eyes so far back into my head. Tomlin is 2-7 against the Patriots so the only way they make it to the SB is if the Patriots lose early in the playoffs. I know there are some steelers fans on this thread, please tell me why I'm wrong.

Also, I hope Aaron Rogers goes on a war path to the Super Bowl. He seems angry this year.

I don't think you're wrong,though I don't think they're far off.

Pittsburgh is such a Jekyll and Hyde team. They can look dominant in one game but awful the next. I don't think Tomlin is a bad coach but they can't seem to get past the Pats. Their offense has all the pieces and really did well last year. Defense has killed them. Losing Shazier was the start, but their lack of pass rush then has a trickle effect to their secondary getting shredded. They have some new prices this year with hybrid safety types which should be interesting but until their defense can be a force again...it's just not going to happen.

Browns fan here...I hope we win like 5 games...even just 1!

Ugh. I feel hard knocks producers are making us look better than we are.

At least we beat the super bowl champs though, so that counts for something right?!

On a serious note, I feel this team will be the team that finally turns it around. I hope they do bc I'm tired of 20 years of rebuilding

I think the brownies do win about 5 games. They are loaded from 10 years of first round picks, and they now have 2 qb's that done superstink. Good line, good defense.

This is the beginning of a 3 year span of good play.

Then after than, they go back to being the brownies...

There will be riots in the streets for a free bud light...which is comical and sad when you think about it. But hey, the best beer is free beer.

Oh I have no love for the Packers, but I think Aaron Rogers is due for a solid season.

I have love for the Packers and I am also hoping AR is due for a solid season.

A big issue with the Pack is that, despite their offensive guns, our defense has been really bad (slow).

I have been calling for years for an overhaul of the D. Our weak defense causes Rodgers to try to do too much.

We fired the D-coordinator and made bunch defensive picks in the draft. Here is hoping we can at least have a serviceable defense to support the offense.

Lol Vegas has them winning their division this year!

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I'm not too quick to denigrate the Browns this year as blackngold said. The Steelers are the only team in their division who poses a credible threat and they can run hot and cold.

(Part of the reason I love the NFL so much, teams can change year to year so unexpectedly. It's why, despite my hate for NE, I have to respect what they have accomplished.)

Plus, you guys may be forgetting the most important piece of the Browns team. They picked up Jeff Janis from the packers on special teams. Difference maker—partially serious.

welp... Browns will never stop being the Browns...

Cleveland Browns linebacker Mychal Kendricks has apologized after being charged with insider trading by federal officials Wednesday.

Kendricks released a statement shortly after the announcement by U.S. Attorney William McSwain, admitting to insider trading and saying he accepts "full responsibility for my actions" and that he "knew it was wrong."

Kendricks allegedly made a profit of nearly $1.2 million from four separate investments tied to insider trading four years ago. Damilare Sonoiki, a television writer, also has been charged with assisting Kendricks in his investments.

McSwain, the U.S. Attorney for the District Court of Eastern Pennsylvania, said both Kendricks and Sonoiki face "substantial prison time" if convicted.

"I would like to apologize," Kendricks said in the statement released by his attorneys. "Four years ago, I participated in insider trading, and I deeply regret it. I invested money with a former friend of mine who I thought I could trust and who I greatly admired. His background as a Harvard graduate and an employee of Goldman Sachs gave me a false sense of confidence.

It amazes me that the man who led his team to eight Super Bowl appearances and won FIVE rings isn't,

and never was,

among the highest paid quarterbacks.

There's no point in pretending meritocracy.  That's nonsense.

The league should simply negotiate a common scale with the players' association based on percentage of league income.

When your wife out earns you by a wide margin, you don't care as much about money as someone with a family/illegitimate children to support.

If my wife earned 5x my annual salary, I wouldn't approach my boss for a significant raise.

Dang it sucks to be Tom.

A lot depends on when the contract was negotiated. Brady was the highest paid QB for a nanosecond and then Manning's contract came along. That was years ago though.

Heck, Stafford for the Lions used to be the highest paid QB until Rodgers. The salaries just tend to get inflated every year.

In fact, I would place a lot of the recent QB salary inflation at the feet of Brock Osweiller and the Texans—a ludicrous contract on an untested QB.

But as txgolfjunkie points out above, let's not shed too many tears for old Tom, especially since he plays for the... (derisively and with disgust)... Patriots.

The league should simply negotiate a common scale with the players' association based on percentage of league income.

Good point, Tex.

I could have personally interviewed every single season ticket holder at Gillette Stadium and not hear the word "Dang" even once!

And chemclub, yes, in "merica."

At least that's how all the non-sports unions work.

(OK, that's enough cultivating heel-heat, as the wrestling fans call it, for now.)

Many complain that the 4th preseason game is just a waste of time, but for me, I like to see my teams bench players and low draft picks play, and who deserves to make to final cut.

But I don't want to see anyone else's team....

Just watchab roughing the passer penalty called on the Lions, and the defensive player was in the middle of make the tackle on him when he threw the ball. There was no way to not fall on him when they went to the ground. It was a pretty bad call, and as a Lions fan I've seen my share of bad calls

A little late with my reply but I have a lot of

Respect for Tom Brady and that he never held out or held the team ransom to get paid.

Regardless of the fact his wife makes way more cash then him, his team first / win first attitude in taking less money to give the club more to bring in talent needs to me commended.

Teams are putting themselves in cap hell and suffering in other areas on the field.

Some of the rules need to be tweaked a bit. I get trying to eliminate driving a player to the turf, but in this play he was already hitting him and taking him to the ground. There wasn't anyway for him not to land on top of him. It's just another rule that takes away good play. There are plenty of times where the lineman takes an extra hit or gives the extra body slam that could be avoided, I just don't like seeing it called on clean plays, and that goes for every team including mine. I am pretty rare when it comes to the rules, I really don't care how the refs call the game, just call it the same for both teams. As a browns fan, you benefit from having to play through the refs as well. There's no “benefit of the doubt” when a call is made, if the CB touches the receiver at any point it's PI. Then 3 plays later when your team has the ball, the receiver is getting mauled by the CB and somehow it's a clean play. I can't figure out how or why, but I guess when you're the 2 worst teams in the league for last 10 years you get treated that way by everyone.

The less money a QB takes, the more money there is to build the team. Brady cares more about winning and leaving a legacy—which is already in place. The millionaire wife also helps him sleep at night.
