NiftyNiblick
How did everybody get through the weekend with no football? I finally straightened out my closet. Tossed out some suits from three sizes ago. All made by Enzo Fosella. Great tailor, now well into his eighties and retired. This one's for you, Enzo. (Sambuca in my morning coffee.) What did you guys do to kill the time? I think we've got Philadelphia next...at the Link. Nasty place like the old Vet. I liked Franklin Field, myself. Classy Ivy League ballpark. Home of the Penn Relays....is that still a thing? Hopefully, whatever was in our system for the Baltimore debacle is flushed out now. The whole team must have had the flu. Mr. 82
So I was (REALLY) bored yesterday and decided to turn on some of the talking heads on FS1, discussing all things NFL. Is it just me, or do they want to talk about nothing else except the Dallas Cowboys? I mean, you might not even know that Minnesota actually was their opponent on Sunday the way the talking heads were going. Dallas this, and Dallas that, blah blah blah blah blah. I mean, I turned it on in the faint hopes that they might actually be showing highlights or breaking down some of the other games/teams in the league and all we get is Dallas this and Dallas that. So I turned it off after about 30 minutes and watch one of the Captain America movies. And yes, Skip Bayless is a worthless (certainly overpaid) tool. Between him and Colin Cowturd, I'm not sure who spends more time looking at themselves in front of the mirror in the morning just to admire themselves. PMookie
It never seems to amaze me at how Detroit can continue to be horrible decade after decade. It hasn’t mattered who they’ve hired as a general manager, head coach, or anything. They’ve been awful since the 60s. Every year we have the same issues with the offensive and defensive lines, we can’t run the ball, and our defense gives up way too many yards by the opposing team’s running backs. We don’t pressure the quarterback, we always end up in the bottom 5 for sacks, and we year after year never make the playoffs. What does an organization have to do to start to win? How is it possible that New England has done it for almost 15 years straight now? We hired a guy from New England to be our general manager, and even a New England defensive coordinator to be our head coach, and nothing has changed. It never matters who coaches, who are the general manager is, etc. Our draft selections never pan out, and the last decent player we had retired early, just like Barry Sanders did.Seriously! How many years in a row did we draft a WR in the first round until we got lucky with megatron? Now, we like to draft RBs every year. chisag
... The real shame for Detroit fans is most teams struggle to find a QB that can take them to the SB. If Stafford is not an elite QB, he is in the category right below elite and deserves to have a team around him that can take advantage of his talent. I wish he played for the Bears! Preach it! Why Detroit (Cincinnati, Cleveland and the Jets as well) still has fans is a giant mystery to me. Hey, I've spent my whole life as a fan of the Miami Dolphins, but you don't hear me talking about them anytime soon, because the suckiness of that franchise stems from the top down, and there isn't one positive thing I have to say about them. As much as it pains me to say it, I miss Joe Robbie. He was a cheap prick, but he knew how to run an NFL franchise. That doesn't mean I condone what he did, or that it was justified, no matter what provoked it. The only person that may have a chance to come out looking descent is Pouncey for protecting Rudolph. That said I think the penalty is more than warranted. If you want to protect him, throw Garrett off him and stand between them. Don’t forget that another offensive lineman (I forget which one) was already throwing Garrett to the ground when Pouncey came in swinging and then started kicking Garrett in the head. Deion Sanders tweeted out that Pouncey is a hero in the nfl locker rooms and while that may be true he should still be penalized for doing something against the rules.
