NFL thread! What are you thinking?

Dang it sucks to be Tom.

Good point, Tex.

I could have personally interviewed every single season ticket holder at Gillette Stadium and not hear the word "Dang" even once!

And chemclub, yes, in "merica."

At least that's how all the non-sports unions work.

(OK, that's enough cultivating heel-heat, as the wrestling fans call it, for now.)

Many complain that the 4th preseason game is just a waste of time, but for me, I like to see my teams bench players and low draft picks play, and who deserves to make to final cut.

But I don't want to see anyone else's team....

Booooring!

Just watchab roughing the passer penalty called on the Lions, and the defensive player was in the middle of make the tackle on him when he threw the ball. There was no way to not fall on him when they went to the ground. It was a pretty bad call, and as a Lions fan I've seen my share of bad calls

Don't disagree with this assessment at all, and that's coming from a Browns fan. Saw nothing wrong with the play.

It amazes me that the man who led his team to eight Super Bowl appearances and won FIVE rings isn't,

and never was,

among the highest paid quarterbacks.

There's no point in pretending meritocracy. That's nonsense.

The league should simply negotiate a common scale with the players' association based on percentage of league income.

When you have over $100 million like Brady and his wife, who cares about another $3 million. I think Brady would much rather continue the dynasty of the Pats and keep winning Super Bowls... (even if they cheat to win them)

A little late with my reply but I have a lot of

Respect for Tom Brady and that he never held out or held the team ransom to get paid.

Regardless of the fact his wife makes way more cash then him, his team first / win first attitude in taking less money to give the club more to bring in talent needs to me commended.

Teams are putting themselves in cap hell and suffering in other areas on the field.

The Patriots don't cheat...plain and simple...they win the game on the field by playing better than the other team.

If you think they cheat walk up to a Patriots player and tell them that....

Some of the rules need to be tweaked a bit. I get trying to eliminate driving a player to the turf, but in this play he was already hitting him and taking him to the ground. There wasn't anyway for him not to land on top of him. It's just another rule that takes away good play. There are plenty of times where the lineman takes an extra hit or gives the extra body slam that could be avoided, I just don't like seeing it called on clean plays, and that goes for every team including mine. I am pretty rare when it comes to the rules, I really don't care how the refs call the game, just call it the same for both teams. As a browns fan, you benefit from having to play through the refs as well. There's no “benefit of the doubt” when a call is made, if the CB touches the receiver at any point it's PI. Then 3 plays later when your team has the ball, the receiver is getting mauled by the CB and somehow it's a clean play. I can't figure out how or why, but I guess when you're the 2 worst teams in the league for last 10 years you get treated that way by everyone.

The less money a QB takes, the more money there is to build the team. Brady cares more about winning and leaving a legacy—which is already in place. The millionaire wife also helps him sleep at night.

Another NFL season is just about to start, and for me,

this one brings a feeling of sadness.

I've already admitted that I'm not a football fan per se.

I'm a big fan of the exotic Erhardt-Perkins offense as executed exquisitely by the Brady/Bellichick-era Patriots.

There's nothing like it anyplace else in football, at any level.

Methodical.    Efficient.    Demoralizing.

But most importantly, beautiful to watch.

And it's all coming to an end. This could be the last year for what's left of it.

And once it's over, it's unlikely that I'll be moved to watch football again.

I'll be interested in watching the 3 former players from our 2012 team play. One's in Minnesota, one's in Atlanta and one's in New England. Potential NFL talent isn't something I saw much of coaching in Maine, but moving to Florida sure changed that.

I'm thinking the Raiders are the new Browns. I wonder if they will wear orange and brown when they make the move to Vegas???

They've got a decent looking team, Carr is good QB and they have some talented players around him, it just depends on how they use them. A couple years ago I think they were going places until Carr got injured.

They cut Martavis Bryant, whom they gave up a third pick for... which was utterly stupid to begin with. So, essentially, they just threw away a 3rd rd pick for nothing.

They let Mack go, whom they could have kept since he was under contract and could have been tagged for two more years...... they got two 1st rd picks.... one of which isn't for next year's draft, AND.... they GAVE the Bears a 2nd rd pick! They got fleeced... again.

In the words of Bill Callahan............ "We are the dumbest team in America".

Yep. Other than 2016.... they have been abysmal for 15 years.

The Browns seem to have their s*** together now. Unlike the Raiders, they have a real NFL GM that understands how this all works. The Raiders have Mumbles the moron as a GM. His tenure has been an absolute disaster!

It has to change when they move to Vegas.......... there is no way the league allows a loser to move into that venue with the Taj Mahal of a stadium that is being built. They will step in (I hope) and make Mark sell the team at some point.

I am with you there.

Carr seemed like he could be a franchise QB in 2016 but now that he got hurt, I doubt he can be the star he once could have been. They had good pieces but "mumbles the moron" made some bad moves this year. They need a revamping at GM and QB to be relevant again.

Maybe if the remove the GM and replace him they could enter a rebuilding phase and be relevant in the next 3-4 years.

I still believe Carr has what it takes to be a franchise QB. I also think Gruden will help him take the next step to being that guy.
