I need a new ball

HighFade

Recommended Posts

I am pretty sure this topic has been covered more than a few times, but

I just ran out of my Titleist NXTs. I am getting so tired of spending $35-$40 on a dozen balls. Any suggestions for a decent lower spin ball that won't break the bank?

I don't need ProV quality. But not Noodle or Mojo either.

I've played a bunch of the Vice balls. Really pleased with the performance & price point. Many here are going to recommend Snell as well. (poetry...)

I think the e6 is a good ball or the Snell black. Is the q star low spin? I think Srixon is the most durable on the market.

I'd simply recommend going to your local retailer.  I am fortunate to be near a PGA superstore ......

Get on the monitor and hit several different balls. At least 5 for good reference.

I used recommendations found here and elsewhere but also paid a visit to the major ball manufacturers websites.  I used their online fitting for reference prior. The recommendations were not 100% accurate but got me in the ballpark.

My experience necessitated a switch from ProV1x to Bridgestone 330S.  The comparison in distance along with spin rates, which translated to easier distances and better dispersion were jaw-dropping.

AS FOR THE PRICE .....

Anyone not at least open to buying refurbished balls is throwing away money.

I find those on Amazon for $10-15/dozen depending on current pricing at all times.

It is essentially like using a ball after your first or second hole with it.  With prettier paint.

They have most brands.

Q Star or Q Star Tour should fit that bill. An underrated ball would be the Top Flite Gamer, although I'd avoid the Gamer Urethane as I have found it at least a club shorter (and I'm not alone in that).

I play the TP5X but about to convert to Snell.

Snell MTB Black is a great ball and they're sold on Amazon with Prime shipping...which is nice. $33 shipped to your door in two days. Not bad.

I've played the Wilson Duo for the summer and everything is great with the ball until I get into the hybrid, fairway wood and driver. The ball is not designed for high swing speeds and the yardage really suffers.

TXG actually did a video on budget golf balls vs the Pro V1...it is really eye opening.

Vice, Snell, Oncor, etc all make a great ball. It just depends on what you're looking for.

The Wilson Staff Duo Soft is a pretty sweet ball for $19.99. Great feel off the driver. Super low compression. I've really enjoyed them. They also have cool color choices if your into that.

I agree. I love Wilson Duo. I play the old spin version. But it only spins something like 7% more than the regular Duo. I just found a good deal on them.

As many have said the snell ball is the best value for me. I have switched to the mtb-red which is a four piece ball, but others may prefer the slightly lower spinning mtb-black. With the price, performance and durability you really cant go wrong! I made the switch for the same reasons as you....tired of the $40+ price tag!

Snell is "DOC" (direct to consumer) so you won't see them at a brick-n-mortar store.

I was one of the lucky evaluators MGS selected to test their MTB Reds earlier this year (link attached), and I'm a big fan of Snell now for sure.

https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/22972-official-forum-member-review-snell-mtb-black-red/

Though ultimately the Reds were not the ball for me, the testing opened my eyes to other types of balls' performance characteristics like PV1 and the Blacks that I would not have strayed from normally since I was fairly happy with the Bridgestone E6 Softs I was using. Tried some MTB Blacks and really never looked back. Got 6-doz delivered for around $27 per, free shipping and no tax!. High quality, very durable and great performance overall. Consider giving their trial pack a try.

It amazes me as I read this that any didn't even finish reading the OP's post. Tired of paying 35+ per dozen, and wants a ball to have some spin. Over Half the recommended balls don't fit either of those requests. Snell is 31.99 shipped, Vice, unless you buy 6 dozen are 35 each. The Costco ball K-sig is probably the only ball fitting his requirements for both. Maybe the Duo soft urethane from Wilson as well. I would say Costco ball though

Snell MTB... Black or Red depending on what you need. I love the black myself. $27 a dozen if you buy in quantities of 6. You can buy the trial package with 6 red and 6 black to see which you like first.

The Vice Tour is a lot less than what you are quoting, and the Vice Pro, Pro Soft and Pro Plus are $24.95 a dozen when you purchase 5 dozen, not 6. And you can order 3 dozen at a $29.95 a dozen discount as well.

No one has mentioned Cut Golf here, but you can get a 3 or 4 piece urethane dozen for $20, with no minimums.

I've got about 4 dozen Srixon Q Star in the house here, and I'll be playing them until I run out, which may be sometime in 2019. I bought 4 dozen Srixon Z Star before Fathers Day at $20 a dozen, but that was a limited time special.

If I was in the market like you are I would scout the internet for deals and you might be surprised what you find for a good deal. But if price is your only issue, definitely visit www.cutgolfco.com

A little harsh, but spot on.

But I stopped at Walmart and picked up a dozen Wilson Duos for $19.97. Just to be safe, I brought a sleeve of my trusty NXTs with me. The Wilsons just had no spin at all. I like lower spin, but they couldn't hold a green at all. So I played the rest of the round with the last of my NXTs. Points to the original recommender of the Wilson's tho. They are cheap and low spin. Just a little too low spin for me. I think I'll try the Kirkland's. I remember they were pretty good when I tried them.

There is no spoon.
