So having one of the better rounds in a while, 36 (Even on the Front) 1 birdie one bogey. Hitting everything solid. Start with a scrambling par 5, par, birdie, then .......bogey, double, par, double, double, double.....FML I hate golf!!

Yep!  I've had those rounds, but I have also had a bad front nine and then woke up and shot even par on the back nine. It's golf.  It just happens.

we've all been there...............

I was -4 on the Old course St Andrews after 14 holes, first time playing so didnt know the issues and all shots just worked. Then when realisation kicked in that I might shoot a sub par game round this iconic beast I went double, double, double, bogie.......I still wake up at 2am with the cold sweats over that

It should be obvious by now that the game was specifically designed to do that to us.

I was always a front nine player.

I thought that when I got older, riding would change that.

It didn't.

It wasn't an attention span issue.

So I don't know what it was, even now.

I made the fatal error of looking forward and thinking I was going to shoot a 74

Done that too many times - thinking I was going to have my best round ever - then it all falls apart

Kevin Sutherland completely understands your frustration.  He shoots a 60 on Saturday with 12 birdies and even par on Sunday at The Boeing Classic.  Crazy game for sure  :).

We know you pain. It happens to all of us.

Forward thinking can really get in your head and make you concentrate on your score instead of hitting the right shot at the right moment. Take the game one shot at a time and the lower rounds will come.

As others have noted, that's the game, golf can be a character builder.    I have had multiple similar experiences, but now that I am an "Old Coot", a seasoned golfer, if you will, speaking for just myself, age has not eliminated such frustration, but has tempered it.   Now, I am even more reminded that golf and sex are two activities for which one does not need to be good in order to enjoy it because it does not require one to run.  One might say that there is a certain joy that one's train is still on the tracks.   That is, in each case,  there is a certain satisfaction that one can still play, in a manner of speaking.
