Big money
Talked with my neighbor yesterday. And he lost 24 golf balls on an extremely challenging course near us. Astonishingly he is a real solid 8 handicap. So obviously it was a very hard course. And he had just a terrible day Keep it in the short stuff
GB13
6! I hit two out of bounds in a row with a 3W in route to carding a 9 on a par 4. I then couldn't pull my head together after the 9 and sprayed it around the course to lose 4 more and carded an 89 in a tournament. cksurfdude
So I used to (I hope I'm using that past tense correctly!) lose a lot of golf balls per round. Not sure if it was two dozen, but probably close, my second season playing and first time out on the "big" championship course ... which actually is a pretty tough course. So that's gotta be my record but I was like an 80 hcp..... Since then one of my golfing goals has been, obviously, to reduce that number. I'm still a bogey+ hack but the other day I came close to ZERO .. it wasn't until #17 that I sliced my drive really badly .. it actually went into the #18 fairway and was technically playable, but for the sake of keeping moving I counted it as lost and re-tee'ed. So 1 is my low record :-) WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... NiftyNiblick
I can't answer that--but it would be a lot. Until I got to the right track. Lots of trees but no natural woods. Sort of like a huge city park, only not flat. You could get stymied easily enough, but you almost never have to walk or ride all the way back to where you played the shot unless you're OB. If every course emulated Pine Valley, I'd have migrated to the pool rooms to play nine ball. But here we are, talking about lost balls. In the wound ball era, we also had broken ones. MDGolfHacker
I think I was around a 12HC and lost somewhere like 19+ balls. Had a swing flaw that I just couldn't get off the tee. Even tried to use an iron and would lose it. That was a brutal summer. Had I think 10 dozen Nike Platinums I had just received and the swing flaw hit. Lost all 10 dozen in like a month (playing several times a week didn't help either). Pretty sure I lost the balls between my legs that summer too from playing so badly...It affected my mental game as well that up until this year I carried a minimum of 2 dozen balls in the bag just in case that swing decided to come back. I'm down to only losing anywhere from 0-3 balls a round now. MDGolfHacker TSssWhat's In This Lefty's Bag? I think that often times that people don't make a mental mark of where their ball actually went, and then they're off looking in the wrong place, then get pissed, and just drop another and fire away. Happy to help. I hope you treat them better than I did There are rounds I definitely don't spend much time looking for my ball. Mostly it's during rounds for fun with friends where the score won't be used competitively outside of any bets we made. I would rather keep the flow of the game going than bring everything to a stop hunting for my ball. Penalties taken normally if woods or a hazard is involved. Very long rough that's soft and most likely plugged? Are there leaves everywhere? We have a gentleman agreement for no penalty stroke if we all can confirm the landing zone as in play, but the ball is just nowhere to be found. Yes and no on the worth it. Ko'olau was once considered the most difficult public course in America. Because of its difficulty and physical location it doesn't get enough play to create the amount of revenue needed to maintain it at a high level. I love the course because it is in many ways like playing wacky putt putt. If you go into understanding you are not going to get country club conditions then it truly is a joy to play. Mr. 82
I honestly couldn't tell you the most I've ever lost, but if it's more than 4 I can't remember. The only round where that might have happened was back in 2014, probably in September, where I met a buddy at a course I've never played before (and haven't since), and shot a smooth 100. I was just getting back into the game after my son's death, and was still trying to get my swing back. I know for a fact that I hit several OB on one hole, but I don't recall losing a lot of balls, just hitting a lot of really bad shots. The normal for me honestly, is when I am playing with someone who hits a lot of shots into the trees, where I am looking for his ball, and I usually walk out of the trees with 2 or 3 balls that weren't his. Many times I walk off the golf course with more balls then what I started with. I've got a paint bucket in the garage full of all of your lost balls and then some. The bigger problem I have is wearing out a golf ball before I lose it. And a lot of times I can play the same ball for multiple rounds, unless I happen to hit a cart path or ricochet off of a tree or two, which ultimately leaves the ball with road rash or assorted other scuff marks. I personally think that golf ball manufacturers pay golf courses to lay down cart paths, so that they destroy more golf balls, forcing folks like me and you to buy more golf balls before we should really need to.
