Mizuno JPX919 Irons...oh my gawd...

It's not that I care what loft it's bent to, but the effect it has on bounce and turf interaction and such.

It was interesting you mention that. I went through and looked at the countless amount of iron sets I’ve played (yes I know I have a problem....but more on that later). I looked st countless sets from the ones I could find (some I just couldn’t find the bounce specs for) they were all different. I get turf interaction, but i don’t think it’ll be noticeable when it comes to bounce. I got bored and also looked up some of the ones I demoed and some of those were a difference of 3 degrees, but while demoing I couldn’t tell.

I got them standards L/L/L with Modus 120 stiff shafts. Had the 919 Forged bent to match the HMP which just means the 7 iron was bent 2 degrees in loft and the 8-GW is all 1. 

I had went for a fitting awhile back at the place they were ordered from, and I trust the guys there. They new the gap that existed between the distances and adjusted based on what they felt like would work.

FedEx tracking says they'll be here tomorrow!

Any steep swingers gaming the Forged/Tours have any issues with the irons digging in the turf at impact?

 

@jlukes can you tell much of a difference from the V Sole Srixon to the low bounce Mizzys?

I'm a shallow swinger so I get more consistent contact with the 919s

Not sure if it helps because I don't have 919s, but the 900s have amazing turf interaction. I'm around 4* down on trackman and take a decent divot. I can't imagine the soles on these are much different, if at all. They look marginally thicker in the tours from 900 to 919, but that could just be my eyes, I'm sure the actual specs are close.

Love the Mizuno irons. My JPX 850 Forged set is still in the garage even though they aren't in the bag right now.

Were you hitting off a mat ?  That can mask the differences.  Once you get it on a course, especially a wet one, the differences will become apparent.

I was. That’s interesting though. I’ll have to pay more attention to this once I get back out on the course. Initially I didn’t notice any difference. But my swing was a little wacky and I’ve now not swung a club in almost a month....

I don’t live near a golf shop but finally got to hit the forged and they are incredible. I wonder how a forged long iron/ MP20 MMC combo would gap?

I'd hit the MP20 MMC before deciding. The forged offer incredible feel and forgiveness. I haven't hit the MP20s but I can't say enough good things about the forged. I don't have the option to play the 919 Tours or MP20 MMCs simply because I'm a lefty, but the forged, even in the short irons, are fantastic.

They definitely dig more then a game improvement set. I got my 919F’s about a month ago and like you, I steepen on the downswing. My fat shots are definitely less forgiving with a significant distance loss than my old gi set.

I did a full fitting at Club Champion. My old set was 11 years old and needed to go. I actually hit the Hot Metal a bit better but the feel on the Forged irons was off the chain. Wow! I had never played a forged iron and just during the fitting process I was impressed with the soft feel and the Trackman stats. I ended up purchasing the Forged, gw- 5 and went with the Hot Metal 4I, which I absolutely hammer.

I’ve played 18 with them once and put in lots of range time and I Love these irons! First, they look amazing. The word I use when I talk or think about them is that they are “a work of art”. A nice clean look from up top and a nice bright finish. These are definitely a players club. Some forgiveness on the face, which is nice, but not much forgiveness from the sole on fat contact.
