That partner was a mentor to me, so if I may provide some advice. If you are entering your profession, find a mentor. If you are established in your profession, be a mentor. I do indeed act as a mentor in my professional career-I feel obligated to do so especially since I've basically been doing it for over 32-years... My mantra to everyone I work with is: DO IT RIGHT, DO IT ONCE, WALK AWAY. In our industry (public safety communications), we cannot afford to be sloppy or do things half a$$ed. We also absolutely cannot ever be in a predicament where we are constantly "working" on an issue. Sloppy work in this sector will lead to all kinds of troubles which could literally endanger lives. All of that can be avoided if some time, effort, thought and patience are all used from the start of any project. It has to be perfect every time and totally reliable or folks can get hurt or not get the help they need.
