Testing

Recommended Posts

I know we've had a lot of folks join this summer with all of these great testing opportunities. If you're new and didn't get selected for a test I do hope you stick around. If you think through the odds they are almost always over 100 to 1 for an opportunity. However there will be more value in the information about the game found here than in doing a test, I guarantee it.

If you're hoping to test in the future Now's the time to build capital. Start some threads, participate in discussions, become a donor (it down sent take a lot just a lot of us contributing a little now and again).

Thanks again to the MGS staff for opening up these opportunities to forum members and for working hard to make sure you find the proper group of testers for each product while sharing the wealth.

BTW I was convinced by the testers themselves that I was fortunate not to be selected for the test I most wanted to be a part of - the Hogan TK iron test. Clearly those irons and my swing would not mix past an 8 iron.

Participating and joining in along with not applying for everything is something else I would add. What ya'll are applying for takes time and you should read reviews that others have done to see how much time it takes.

Sent from my SM-G950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

Building on this.

When applying, try to find a criteria(s) for yourself to help you decide which reviews to apply for other than just, I like "Insert Brand Here" or my current club(s) are "old". If selected, having that defining criteria can help guide and focus a review while providing a unique perspective and useful incite to the rest of the Forum.

In terms of the time, Tommc23 isn't joking and you would be surprised at how much goes into each review and how much ends up not even making it to the Final Posted version of each Stage 2 Review. These things take a good amount of time for a reason and aren't tasks to be taken lightly. No one wants to make a buying decision based off a 1 range session or a paid advertisement style review. As a reviewer you are by extension part of the MyGolfSpy team and tasked with cutting through marketing BS and giving Power back to the Player.

All this being said, they are still a blast to be apart but they also ARE NOT a "Free Club(s) Giveaway"

Well stated everybody and thanks for starting this Rev!

Testing gear here for MGS is a total commitment and comes with a tremendous responsibility. One has to be completely committed (with an open mind) to using a new product, gathering all the data, pictures, videos, etc. and then compiling all of that into probably several drafts that shall be reviewed, edited and sometimes just plain done over. This commitment of time and effort goes straight along with the responsibility that you, as a tester, are charged with explaining to this group why or why not he or she should or should not consider spending their hard-earned cash on this product.

It's not about getting "free" stuff. It's about contributing a valuable service to this fine community. By committing yourself as a potential tester, you MUST be resigned to the fact that it's not about you getting something for nothing. Even before signing up, any potential tester should ask themselves: "What can I give back?"

I too certainly hope many of our new members stick around, contribute to the threads and participate as much as they can. But as I get finger cramps welcoming in the new batch every time there is a "giveaway", I do so with an incredulous air thinking that many coming in that are just here for the free stuff and nothing more. I hope that I am wrong more often than right on that...

While I would welcome the challenging opportunity to test a golf product, I don't have the computer skills required to do so.   Also with my technical illiteracy regarding golf equipment, I don't think even I would listen to me.   However, I am happy to report that through the local threads on this site, I have met and played golf with some new buds.  That is significantly more important to me than any testing.   Additionally, Golf Spy Rob is a long time good friend, most assuredly, he can advise me regarding any new equipment out there.

Good thread.

I echo what's been said already and if you want an idea of time it's about 2-3 months of using, testing, recording, re-testing, comparing, analysing and then succinctly putting this all down on paper in an informative yet interesting and honest way.

Maybe this thread could be stickied into the testing applications forum to help new potential testers?

Yep that last paragraph applied to me too. Really I did not have the time due to work and church obligations to do a through test the way I do one. In all honesty I did not think I would actually play the clubs. I would rather someone else take a spin with those that could actually play them and would maybe play them after the test

I knew this was going to be work and a good challenge to provide to best review possible. I was just selected for the i210 and even though the irons are still a ways away I was pumped and got right into it. I was writing notes from my fitting and going through all the kit MGS had sent here at the cottage and my wife looks over at me and says "I've never seen you work so hard or get into something so much like this that isn't your work!"

It's an incredible opportunity to get selected for anything and the best possible thing anyone who is selected can do is throw yourself into and give a very honest and comprehensive review. Possibly more important then all of that is have fun with it and enjoy the experience of being a tester.

Last bit is enjoy the forum and the community, the MGS site is easily my most used ap and the amount I have learned and found out through all the content on here is stunning. It's great to see the community grow and many new names popping up.

It's always great to see everyone's WIMB!

To Danbrook - exactly on your last paragraph. If I never was selected for a test or won a contest of some sort I'd still be a regular MGS forum member, blog reader and contributor.

I came here to learn about golf balls, particularly spin (side spin which I've learned doesn't exist). I've learned a ton about golf. This has been hugely important as I'm working to put my game back together.

I am thankful for all the new members and hope many of you stick around. Don't sweat it the testing opportunities will come. Every year we have more tests that we're asked to do. Your number will come up.
