New Course Record!

NO, not me!!!  dammmit!

Last Friday I went to my club to practice my short game.  When I got there, the driving range was packed, so was the practice green and short game area.  I thought it was the Men's Club gangsome, but these dudes were BIG.  Our pro was practicing too.  I talked with one guy who was from Bend, OR, and he said they were practicing for a two day tournament at Sun Willows Golf Club, our sister course in Pasco.

It was the 3rd Annual Frogman Classic 2-man Best Ball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday that benefits the SEAL Future Fund 501C3 nonprofit to help SEALs transition from the military to help them achieve success in their next role in life.

My course is a par 37/35 = 72 course, and a local guy as a +1 handicap shot 28/31 = 59 to break the old course record of 62 shot by our pro in a pro-am in 2005.  He got a standing ovation by Navy SEALs.

Here's the story that happened last Friday...

nice story, Starting with 7 straight birdies is awesome :) and an audience of Navy seals to watch the final birdie putt.

Think I would just retire from golf at that point, it doesn't get any better. ;)

I never did hear how he did in the tournament on the weekend.

My course is not that difficult for a very good player, but it's a challenge for not-so-good players.  Having five par 5's is a help.  The best I've done is a 73 last year.  I only hope that I can do it again in 2 years so I can shoot my age.

I shot 69 on an Arnold Palmer course in Phoenix in 2003 when I was an 18 'cap.  Total fluke!!  Can I count that?

Awesome story. We had our course record broken in a tourney this summer too. Local young man who was signed by the university golf team and wasn't really supposed to ever be a factor. Has worked his tail off and now is the #1 on the team and at one point was #7!in the country in scoring average. Anyway our record was 63 and he shot 60 which included hitting his drive into a hazard on a par 5 and calling a penalty on himself on the same hole for the ball moving after he grounded his club. Still only took a 6 on the hole and should have birdied for a 58. It was an effortless day and awesome to watch.

I set the course record at my course two weeks ago. Furtherest OB left on the 14th hole. Most people hit one of the houses, but I cleared them and went down the street to the corner. 175 yards out of bounds. Oops.

I was playing injured but was going to kill the ball. About halfway down, I stopped my body but not the club.

The good news is that record is not one posted in the clubhouse.

Haha, reminds me of the time where I had the longest drive on 16th hole. It went 800 yards... only problem was the it was a huge banana slice OB right, over the houses, hit the road, and rolled down the big hill, to right in front of the lake. 600 yards of runout down the road and 400 yards past the green.

Oops...

That's pretty cool and must be as rare as hens teeth.  I wonder how often amateur players flirt with sub 60 rounds?

About 25 years ago one of the local pros built a nine-hole executive course in town.  It's a par 35 playing about 2800y with 2 par 3's, 6 par 4's, and one par 5.  Not in the best of shape, but it was challenging.  I used to play there all the time until I joined my current club.

Maybe 20 years ago, I was playing with the pro, assistant pro, and another guy that eventually turned pro.  Big money game, probably $1 a hole, I don't remember.  Anyway, I shot a course record 31 that stood for 6 years, until a high school kid that just got a golf scholarship to the University of Oregon shot a 27.  Oh, to be young again!!
