Insight on 2nd gen iblade?

Recommended Posts

I'm holding out making any decisions on my next purchase until I have a better understanding of what the next generation iblade is released. I know the i500 just dropped and has been well received on the market place, and was hoping someone had some insight pertaining to the iblade 2.0. Does anyone know what kind of timeframe we can be looking at for these?

I have no idea however, we are talking about PING. Unlike TaylorMade and Callaway who bring out a new set of irons because the moon has changed phase, PING will bring a new set when they are darned good and ready. Although they have gotten more prone to changing their line up.

Ping has released more irons than both TaylorMade and callaway over the past 18 months.

With the amount of prerelease info that comes out with regards to USGA certification and such I would think if something were coming soon we'd know about it by now. That and considering the new irons Ping has dropped I wouldn't be surprised if it was going to be a while before a new blade release. So it boils down to whats your time frame on new irons?

Driver: Callaway Rogue - Project X HZRDUS Yellow, 6.0, 63g

Fairway: Callaway Epic 3 wood, Rogue MAX stiff, 75g

4-6 Iron: Mizuno JPX-850 - Project X 5.5

7-PW: Mizuno JPX-850 Forged - Project X 5.5

Wedges: Mizuno MP-T5 (50, 54), Ping Glide 2.0 Stealth 60 ES

Putter: Odyssey Marxman, Currently tested and kept Golf Pride Tour SNSR Contour Pro 140cc grip

Ping has been releasing clubs pretty regularly lately, a lot more than normal. I would not be surprised if they are out in a few months. I noticed they are on sale at Golf Galaxy now, usually a sign. I love my current iBlades, would take a lot to replace them.

No immediate rush. Love the feel of the current iblade but concerned with the feedback the finish has received over time. Love the X-Forged and very curious about the new Mizuno JPX919 Tours. Will give Ping a couple months before I make my decision. I know Ping does have the iblade 2.0 trademarked, so I believe its more a matter of when, not if they hit the market place.

That’s a bummer

There’s pictures. It’s a clean look but there isn’t much “wow” there.

Yeah I’ve seen the pics of the blueprint. Not a fan. Especially since they’ll be priced like the Glide Forged Wedges.

Doesn’t seem right for ping not to have a players cavity back.

Besides the i210?

Yeah. That doesn’t check the players iron box for me. When I tested the i200’s they were just fine, but the extra offset wasn’t for me. The iblade is a forgiving iron that looks like a players iron.

The i200’s were a “players iron” that looked like a GI club. Soles were too wide, etc.

It just doesn’t seem like a PING thing to make a tour cavity like you describe.

One thing for sure, The 210’s are killing it on the LPGA.

The iblade is that club, next in line for the S series. It really was/is the ultimate tour cavity.... badged as a blade.

Yeah, the 200’s/210’s got/get a lot of use for sure, but you have to be a ping die hard to enjoy that amount of offset and chunkiness on an iron.

Iblade is way more pleasant to look at, and from the little testing I did it felt more forgiving and softer than the i200. But that memory is a few years old now.

I agree...iblade is pretty sweet.  I understand why some refuse to call it a blade but I absolutely loved how it felt and performed.

Who knows, maybe they’ll remodel the iblade and keep the blueprint and i210 series?

I heard those blue prints are tiny. Like the 3 iron isn’t much wider than the ball.
