Why not my clubs? ****UPDATE - COBRA DID THE RIGHT THING!

9/20 - After months of trying to get someone at Cobra to hear what I was saying about my clubs - Bob Philion (CEO) stepped up and made good on a problem for me - Mr average customer!

Thought it only fair to point this out.

So - I put my club up on ebay over two weeks ago ....

Set the auction at about what other sets were going for,

yet mine didn't move.

Re-listed at a steep (relatively speaking) price drop - still they just sit there.

These are the clubs pictured - in 8.5 of 10(10=new) condition.

2* flat / 1" short

Lead tape added by Cobra club maker.

C-taper 120S shafts (a bit of a premium type shaft or so I thought).

Why do others sell almost daily for 675 to 800 on ebay while mine (started at 730 ----> down to essentially 600) just sit???

Is it the shaft? The lenght/lie ?

IF SO - how much should they be reduced?

or....

Is it simply a factor of waiting for someone who needs or desires those specs???

Is it time & money or just time itself that I'm not factoring accurately?

THANKS FOR TAKING YOUR TIME TO HELP !!!

Anyone have a estimation of what that should or often does to the final dollar up or down someone may or may not pay?

Any time you enter into a market with a niche product you run the risk of having a hard time finding the right buyer. Your experience provides an argument for why custom fitting might not be the answer for all folks. If possible I would recommend the lie be adjusted back to standard. The one each shorter? Heck there are a lot of shorter guys playing golf.

Just an idea............. if you are not in dire need of that $600 bones then pay it forward. I recently gave a full set of clubs to the local high school golf team who in turn gifted them to a young man who didn't have the means to purchase his own set. This was a set of MIzuno MP 52 irons, MIzuno S18 wedges, a TM M2 hybrid and a Cobra F7 driver along with an older Ping Putter. My reward was I gave a kid the opportunity to enjoy a sport he may end up playing for a life time. Imagine if he makes it on tour and I was part of his journey?

Love it, that donation is awesome !!!

Ironically - I coach a high school team - which is how I ended up with Cobra clubs.

I would donate if I didn't need the money (wife is all over me) to buy replacements.

Thanks for the input!!!!

I have sold 200 clubs or so on eBay over the last few years. It can be fickle, the club market can go slow at times. I find it new to sell items “buy it now” with accepts best offers and free shipping. People seem to not have the patience to bid and wait 7 days to win the clubs and then wait another4 days to receive it. I ship Priority 2 day, costs me $12.85 for a Driver and maybe $20 for a iron set. Another good thing to see the market for what you are selling is to search your Cobra irons and then go to filter and select “sold” you will then be able to see what people are paying for the clubs. Just a few tips I have. The lead tape can hurt the value a bit. Good luck!

Thanks geez.  Your post is helpful yet depressing because that is what I did on all fronts except shipping costs.

Your welcome. It is always my personal clubs that are the hardest to sell for what I want to get. Funny how that works [emoji3]

The frustrating part is, I have never paid more than 200 for irons.

Paid for fitting , spent for new and now this.

Bought some eye2's for my next set already. $70.

1,100$ clubs with less than 10 rounds and crickets at essentially $600.

wow

Length, lie, and tape are going to be a tough sell. Call global golf and see what they'll give you in trade. You can normally get away with a bit of customization but that is very specific. May be beneficial to pull the shafts and sell the heads separately. There has to be a way to remove the tape.

You're approaching the winter, not quite peak golf season for a majority of the golfing population.

These are some really niche specific clubs with the loft and length as mentioned above.

You'll likely take a decent hit by selling them when in fact you do.

Have some patience, your buyer will come along. Good luck!

It could also be the shafts, c-tapers have a unique feel to them and they're not for everyone so the price might be too high for someone who wants the heads but will have to end up pulling the shafts.

I do a decent bit of eBay hustling (not just golf stuff) and can say I've got a decent feel for that marketplace now. I think it's timing to be honest.

I learned this when trying to sell some collectibles. It's not about pricing unless you're in dire need to move a product quickly. With patience and a good product, you'll find a buyer that's willing to pay a fair value. Unless people are messaging you with lower offers, it's not the price.

If you want to help it along, try tweaking your listing a bit with new/different pictures, add to the description, or even change the selling method.

Fun story about a driver I sold: I listed it as a BiN accepting offers at fair market $X. No hits. Relisted as an auction at a lower price. No hits. Relisted again lower than that. Had a guy message me willing to buy it now at a price higher than $X initially if I could have it to him by the weekend. By this point it had been sitting in a box ready to go for a month and a half so I smoothly took the deal and ran to the post office.

Remember, it only takes one.

the unique specs along with it now getting into fall (1/2 the country prob isn't thinking about new irons) would be my guess.  Can you remove the lead tape and polish them up?  that may be turning some buyers off as well....just my 2c

Definitely change the pictures. Put a white towel down, and take close-up pics of the faces, soles, back, and then add the pics of the shafts, and grips. Your pictures have to show the wear on the clubs. You gotta make them look really good! Re-do the listing description too so it's more positive and SELLS the clubs.

I agree with the timing, especially for places with legit winters. About the only golf-related shopping I do around this time of year is looking for end of season hot deals. That's may just be me, of course.

Thanks to all - lots of good info.

Gonna polish them - change pics

play around with selling method and basically start from scratch.

These clubs are too good to let go for 1/2 value.

Honestly I simply wish Cobra would have done what they promised upon ordering them.

They didn't - so here I am doing this.

THANK AGAIN !!

Valuable insight !!!!

A couple of people said it pretty well. Going into fall isn't the best time to sell clubs. Guys are looking for cheap sets to mess with over the winter. The C-taper shaft is the standard offering in some of the Cobra irons and I don't think that is hurting it one bit. I think the 1” short is the killer. If it was 1/4” short not a biggie but not many guys get fit for 1” short. I'd say fewer than for 1” long. So you're probably hoping for that one guy out there that has been fit, knows he needs 1” short irons and is looking for this set.

  • 2 weeks later...

... The market is fickle. Really love my P790's so I decided to sell my LIKE NEW Cobra Forged Tour irons. These are current irons that sell for $999 and I listed the at $399 thinking they would be gone very quickly. I ended up dropping the price several times and finally stopped at $329 shipped and basically received zero offers. So I kept them and have played them a few times and just love the look, feel and performance. I would rather keep them or even give them to a friend before selling them at such a ridiculously low price. If I decide to sell again I will offer them at $399 shipped and if I get no takers then I will give them away. I hope you have better luck with yours!
