HBO drops boxing after 2018!

What about Showtime, isn't it affiliated with HBO.   Perhaps, it would mean less work for Micheal Buffer, but more work for Jimmy Lennon, Jr.

It should actually be an opportunity for expansion of boxing coverage for Showtime.

I like their crew better anyway.

Lampley and Lederman are OK on HBO, but Kellerman and Roy Jones are not good at all.

Ranallo, Bernstein, Malifnaggi, and Farhood are a much better crew from my perspective as a former boxer.  Their technical expertise and ability to articulate it is clearly superior.

Fortunately, I subscribe to Showtime as well.

Between MMA and boxing having more "champions" then professional wrestling, it's a dying sport. Sad for me to say, since I grew up with the sport and in the sport. My dad and my older brother were pros, I dabbled with Golden Gloves and the boxing team at Camp Lejeune way back when in the early 60's.

Boxing is sadly a different sport now.

Boxing has already died as a mainstream sport.

It thrives as a niche sport, however.

The PPVs make huge bucks.

The alphabet soup belts do mean next to nothing, now.

But the aficionados understand that public opinion determines the champions now.

And where there's a serious disagreement in the public opinion,

HUGE PPV fights result.

I will always love boxing as it's the only sport where I ever experienced a modicum of success as a participant, and at an admittedly low level, got to participate successfully as a professional.

It was the first sport that I ever followed as a little kid, too, well ahead of my second favorite, baseball, because it was the only sport that my dad closely followed.

.

I couldn't defend its existence with rational logic, but I do enjoy it a lot..

I do admit to hating MMA, though.

One other thing to think about.

When I was a young boy in the 1950s, baseball, boxing, and thoroughbred racing were all much bigger pro sports than the NFL, the NBA, and the NHL.

That has obviously changed, radically. Race tracks in particularly have closed all over the country

However, America is getting browner.

Latinos will soon be the largest ethnic group according to some estimates.

Latinos love boxing and baseball, and most of the top jockeys are Latino.

Means nothing, definitively, but it's something to think about.

I'm tempted with HBO dropping boxing, the reason i got it,

but I'd miss John Oliver and Bill Maher too much.

Also, I very much liked the Miss Sherlock series from Japan that HBO aired this year.

Does anyone really watch boxing anymore when it’s not a super fight? For the money hbo pays to show fights it’s probably not worth it anymore
