PM Bucky from this thread - he jury rigged a kneeling pad and it worked out great for him. I’m guessing he’s moved on to Cobra connect and not checking in here. 🙂

Pretty much nailed it on the head there Rev. I think I ended up with the two most intensive tests MGS has to offer back to back. No complaints though!

As for the knee pad I originally ordered a garden pad from Amazon for $15. It had a little more give than the official SuperSpeed pad but would have worked perfectly fine. Just buy as big of one as you can to make sure you don’t have a lot of sliding around.

If anyone else has questions send me a PM and I’d be happy to help.

Played 18 today, and while my swing is still not perfect I did manage to launch 4 drives over 240 one of which was a new personal best of 270. I was fortunate enough to get some roll going downhill, but I'm not complaining. Screenshot_20190507-200040.jpeg20190507_191208-01.jpeg

I just picked up a set for myself and the All Star set for my 7yo daughter. She has a great swing but she is small and does not generate much swing speed. We watched some videos and she is fired up to get started with training. I do have a couple of questions that I hope somebody can help out with.

1. I did not purchase the radar nor do I have a swing caddy or Mevo. Is this completely neccesary or will we be fine without it?

2. Do any of you have experience with these and children? If so, any tips, tricks, thoughts, etc would be very welcome.

3.Do you guys use these as a preround or pre range session woarm up? Im thinking that the protocols would be pretty good for      getting you ready to go and require less (Smaller) buckets of range balls for a good practice sesh.

Check a few pages back. There was a post that showed the recommended warmup. Last week I used my skillz gold flex trainer and the light club to get warmed up in the parking lot and it seemed to work well!

I’m only two weeks into the program, but the feedback here was so strong I couldn’t hold back anymore. Good luck with your training!

Love the new group of guys here!

You need the radar - just need it. Golf Spy MPR has his son doing SuperSpeed with his home made kit so I’d PM him for help.

The warm up question is insightful - I do the dynamic warmup before all range sessions and rounds. It’s a great warm up. I also keep the red (my heaviest) club in my bag and swing it from time to time throughout the round or session - I see big it as fast as I can when I do that to remind my brain to swing fast - I find that makes about a 2 mph difference in SwingSpeed for me.

I’ve experimented with lots of stuff and so far that works best.

Good luck guys and kids! I had my grandson swinging the green club this past weekend. :)

Congrats, and you should be. Just two night ago I started building graphs in Excel of all the data points I've recorded for my swings since January 1 (which was already 9 weeks into "training") and all I could think was "damn it, I wish I recorded and collected data from the start!" I trained my first 9 weeks without recording data and making a "game of it" and wished I did.

You know when the best time to start is? Yesterday!

You know the second best time to start? Today!

Awesome! Good luck! The radar is hugely important. I felt lost when I broke mine.

I hit 140 with the green club during my last session, so there is definitely something to competing against yourself with the radar. Having it really allows you to push yourself.

Thanks guys! I was thinking about creating a spreadsheet to track this. You have convinced me. I should start a thread, post initial results, and then update it every week. I am really looking for this to help my daughter. She hits the ball very well but she just doesnt have the speed.

This is what most of us are doing. If you look at some of the stage 2 posts on the official testers did you can see the format being used for tv spreadsheet. You can create your own thread but the unofficial testers have just started posting here.

Yup, a bunch of unofficial testers like myself post here now.  There's a ton of good information in this thread and a lot of active support, so I would leverage the group here.  They've already answered a bunch of my questions.

Good luck!  I just finished week 2 myself.  Looking forward to the next 4 of the first level!

I've been amazed at the progress I've made since starting the new routines. I started on "Level 2," since I had already completed the Introduction level of the old protocols.

My green club max has screamed past the goal of 130 I set at the beginning of my training, hitting 140 in my Wednesday session and now routinely at 133 or so.

Translating the speed to the course still needs some work. I've been reasonably successful with irons on the range, but am still struggling to get my actual driver speeds above 100 mph. And when I'm playing, my sequencing tends to get poor with both irons and driver, so there's still a lot to work on there, too.

League play was great today. Hit the ball well and hit some of my longer drives that I remember there. One particularly on the 17th hole I drove into the back bunker on the green. This screen shot is pretty close to accurate for where I teed off and ended up.

IMG_4492.jpg

My swing felt much better this week than last as I wasn’t trying to kill it. I have to get to the range soon so I am take the radar out and see some numbers.

You'll get there, no doubt about it. I had trouble getting the speed I was seeing to translate from the range to the course. I think it has something to do with risk, on the course you're penalized for an errant shot. Once you make it to week 20 and start the ASD protocols, it's like a switch went off. I struggled with sequencing and did the ASD 2 protocol, which has been phenomenal! I still struggle with extra distance with my irons, but the driver has been a beast.

This may come out as a bit of a ramble, but I'm hoping as we all go forward and are truly getting into golf season, I'd in hopes to hear how everyone feels on if this has directly impacted your scoring? You know, alot of us spent the entire winter swinging these things, and while speed is "the new king," this whole process must involve better scoring as per golf. So I'm really crossing my fingers that as the weeks go by we hear more stories of new record rounds OR ALSO maybe a lowered scoring average. That's our real pay dirt!

My feeling thus far is my golf has not been all that stellar yet, but I do feel fairly strongly that my "ceiling" has been raised and my ability to go low (or lower more often) is near. I'm optimistic. I've had a few rounds already this year that I feel have shown the potential to do so, much earlier in my year than last. Have had 4 rounds being anywhere from -1 to +1 through 12-14 holes only to crumble, and one round kinda finally holding one of those together for 72 2 weeks ago. I was not able to see anything like that last year until the mid summer months and feel strongly I can exceed last years scores given the added length?!?!?!?

Higher swing speeds for lower scores for all of us I sure hope!!!! The theory is it should be easier for us with the added length and speed, we didn't spend all this time doing it for nothing LOL. Keep chiming in with scores as we go guys, this is the TRUE METRIC OF OUR SUCCESS! SCORES

@Trial&Error. Valid question and at this point, length wasn’t a big issue with my game. I have only been doing this for about 10 weeks and while I am hitting the ball longer I am not seeing lower scores. The lack of lower scores for me is not a distance issue but a chipping and pitching issue. I haven’t been tracking numbers that much lately but I feel like I am hitting more greens so tee opportunity for better scores is there I just need to eliminate the big numbers. My real concern right now is a big slice/lack of consistency that has crept into my tee game which I have heard other players comment about as well.

Well I hope the rest of your game comes back around so you can take benefit of your added length/speed. I too have my own struggles (don't we all), but all things equal I believe: my best "me" last year when things were all working...........can not beat the "me" this year when all things are working and more length/power. This is unknown of course but why I said I feel like my ceiling is now higher.

Hope you get it all back in your other areas

I've had the chipping issue also but when I think about it I feel it's a good problem to have. Currently my drives are going further so I am having a lot of in between club shots or 3/4 wedges and has been forcing me to add new pieces to my game. When I am playing well I'm hitting pars and not having blow up holes but the other day I had 2 short birdie putts because I stuck wedges close. Granted I also had to try and get up and down 8 times because I was short with my shots which led to an overall higher score. I do believe once I have adapted to my "new" game I'll be scoring much better.

For all the "old" SS guys, when doing the ASD how many swings did you do to gauge ground interaction? I cant imagine one swing is sufficient to tell. Also how did you get the radar to read ball speed vs club speed when testing for sequencing?

I use a different device for ball speed

I asked my teachers advice on which ASD to do and he didn’t hesitate with his answer so it was easy for me. :)

I’ve always struggled leaving balls out right (high pushes or high slices) when I try to swing hard from the top. I’m always fighting that and tell myself to let the speed build, and I bet my transition is probably faster than I think. I don’t feel like I’m parallel with my backswing but I usually am.

Last week I couldn’t hit the ball off the tee to save my life. While I could associate a little bit of that with the training, I was probably trying to swing out of my shoes.

Yesterday I reminded my self to stay smooth and hit my tee shots really well. One high push early with my 5-wood but kicked off the hill in the rough and settled in the fairway. Other drives were easily in my “longer” if not longest grouping.

Ended up with 5 pars too. Just couldn’t get the ball to stop close to the hole. (Still firm aerated greens).

So long story short, I think I was seeing some benefits while still feeling like I was swinging smooth even though the final score didn’t support that (bad chipping day) and one little fiasco punching out of the shrubs that took an extra swing or two.

It’s interesting how we are having differing no results - I got extra distance with my irons first - Now I have to be careful not to swing the irons too fast or try to swing them too fast. When I do I leave the club face open and hit them right but when I focus on keeping the club in front of me ASD 2 style I hit beautiful straight high shots.

Has anyone tried using a Zepp swing sensor for checking the swing speed? Not sure I want to drop $100 on a radar...

I wouldn't recommend a zepp for measuring swing speed. It needs ball contact to get a decent read, not good on practice swings. I tried using mine and would get huge differences in speed from one swing to the next, some over 10mph. Zepp is good for swing plane and tempo training.

A question for guys doing the maintenance protocol. Has it impacted your SS?

It hasn’t on the course for me but I have been a little off my top numbers during the protocols particularly lefty.
