GolfSpy MPR
Thought this might be fun. A couple opening candidates: Hitting a shot that works out exactly like you planned. Mr. 82
Seeing the ball go in the hole from 160 yards out in the fairway. I've never had a hole in one, but the pure joy I got holing out for eagle is the best feeling I've ever had playing golf. And it never gets old either, no matter how many times you do it. I've played many a around by myself, and many rounds with others. One of the reasons I really look forward to my Tuesday evening golf league is the guys I play in that league with. I can be having a horrible week or day, and then Tuesday night comes along, and I know it's time for golf with the guys. I sometimes find myself in a bad mood even when I get there, but by the time the night is up, I'm feeling good. I've also discovered these FSGA one day events, where you sign up and play a course with people you don't know, and like I will be doing on this coming Monday, I'll be paired with 3 people who I don't even know. But the last few times I've done this it's been great to meet new people, and usually in these groups I am paired with golfers at my skill level or better. But skill level aside, the social aspect of the game should not be overlooked. Unless I haven't seen it, no one here is going to be on TV on Sundays anytime soon, so our golf is all about the experience, and who you play with, and what you take away from your time spent with others. The appreciation of their good shots, and vice versa. I tried playing golf by myself for over a year, and never had a game. Honestly, it got somewhat depressing towards the end of that time, and I got to the point where I didn't feel like playing anymore. Golf by yourself can be ok for awhile, but I think if you are just playing alone and never with others, you are missing out on a lot of what this great game has to offer, in interacting with others. GolfSpy_BNG
The sweetest feeling I have experienced in golf was not breaking the sub-80 round the first time. It was doing it the second time that was the best feeling. Knowing that the first time wasn't a fluke gave me the confidence to do it 3 times since. On a side note, I have had many hole outs over the years but never had a hole in one. I assume that if/when that happens that will be my new number one. STUDque
I've got one that's special to me: Teeing up the first ball on hole 1 Think about all the steps and *work* it takes to get a round together. Setting up a time to play, coordinating with your partners, clearing your schedule, getting a blessing from SWMBO all need to take place before this is even a thought. In between approval and the round you may even hit the range, catch a lesson, mentally plan your round, and check the weather. Fast forward to gameday you pick out your outfit, make a few club choices, select the balls you'll be playing, load up the bag, plan your meals and drinks, then drive to the course (sometimes a longer drive than others). Once you've arrived at the course, you check in, load up, warm up and practice. Then, FINALLY, make your way to the first tee. The first tee represents potential. You could have the round of your life today. You could see something you've never seen, experience something you've never felt, or make a new connection. The first tee is a blank slate which opens opportunity to your adventure for the next 4 hours of your life. You will be at peace in nature without distraction from the outside world. You can write your day however you want. Nerves are coursing through your veins as you step up to put the first mark on your story. Playing partners and passerbys watching. Maybe there's money on the line, maybe there's glory, maybe there's pride. This shot is the first step in your journey. You've worked hard to get to this point and it's now time to deliver. A purely struck shot is certainly the best physical feeling but teeing that first ball is undeniably the best spiritual feeling in golf. In today's society of rush rush rush, it's easy for people to take this moment for granted. Next time you stand on the first tee, take a moment to think about all the effort that has led you to where you stand.
