The best feeling in golf is...

Thought this might be fun. A couple opening candidates:

  • Hitting a shot that works out exactly like you planned.
  • Playing a round with your dad/son/etc.
  • Breaking a milestone number.

There are lots of others. What would you add?

my best feeling is the iron shot that is struck so purely off the sweet spot then flies beautifully to the green, you hardly even feel the shot off the face it's so well struck, sounds beautiful too.

Seeing the ball go in the hole from 160 yards out in the fairway.

I've never had a hole in one, but the pure joy I got holing out for eagle is the best feeling I've ever had playing golf.  And it never gets old either, no matter how many times you do it.

The honeymoon time with a new club, especially a driver or putter.

That round in which you discover the swing thought that has changed your game forever. [ahem]

I always walk on and the best feeling I get is when I get paired with another person ( or group) and the chemistry is there that we just click and end up having some laughs, good conversation and that makes the round such an awesome experience

I actually thought about choosing this as my choice.  I've played many a around by myself, and many rounds with others.  One of the reasons I really look forward to my Tuesday evening golf league is the guys I play in that league with.  I can be having a horrible week or day, and then Tuesday night comes along, and I know it's time for golf with the guys.  I sometimes find myself in a bad mood even when I get there, but by the time the night is up, I'm feeling good.

I've also discovered these FSGA one day events, where you sign up and play a course with people you don't know, and like I will be doing on this coming Monday, I'll be paired with 3 people who I don't even know.  But the last few times I've done this it's been great to meet new people, and usually in these groups I am paired with golfers at my skill level or better.  But skill level aside, the social aspect of the game should not be overlooked.  Unless I haven't seen it, no one here is going to be on TV on Sundays anytime soon, so our golf is all about the experience, and who you play with, and what you take away from your time spent with others.  The appreciation of their good shots, and vice versa.

I tried playing golf by myself for over a year, and never had a game.  Honestly, it got somewhat depressing towards the end of that time, and I got to the point where I didn't feel like playing anymore.  Golf by yourself can be ok for awhile, but I think if you are just playing alone and never with others, you are missing out on a lot of what this great game has to offer, in interacting with others.

Playing a round with my wife, family, or friends.

Sinking a 15 plus foot putt.

The first sip of a post round beverage. The beverage tastes even better if your collecting money after the round as well.

After playing cast clubs for every swing I have ever taken, show up to a lesson with a forged 7 iron and pure it on the first swing.  Ohhhhhh I'm weak just thinking about it.

Ok. I'm going to jump in on this one as its absolutely the best.

From an actual playing standpoint. The best feeling is having your caddy hand you the putter for a 150 yard walk down the fairway to the green. Unbeatable!!
