Best golf rangefinder

Recommended Posts

You missed a great one which is NX7 Pro. You'll find it numerous threads on here about the quality of the device. They also have a special savings for MGS members and a lifetime battery supply. I've had expensive ones like the Nikon  and cheap ones like Litehouse. The Nikon was quick and easy target acquisition but expensive, the Litehouse was a cheap POS and would always give me different numbers - my wife hated it since it was difficult to acquire the pin.

In terms of the slope I can't tell you how the programming works just that it does. On my NX7 Pro, in Mode 2 it will give me the 'straight' distance as well as a separate number for the 'elevated' distance. It also has quick acquisition of the target and vibrates when it acquires the pin.

NX7 Pro. I was fortunate enough to demo and write up a review for it. There were six of us in total and collectively, there was overwhelming support in favor for this unit.

This is the best value product for line of sight rangefinders, it’s worth it.

I would suggest the Presicion Pro NX7 Pro but if you are dead set on one of the four you listed, I would go with the Nikon Coolshot 20. The other Nikon and Busnell are okay too but stay away from the TecTecTec!

Slope is measured by taking the elevation change between the rangefinder and the pin. It then takes the number and adjusts up and down depending on the elevation change. If it is 150 yards away and 15 feet uphill, it will give you a reading around 157 yards. If it is 150 yards and downhill 15 feet, it will read 143 yards.

Not much more to add to Tony's comment. I recently purchased the NX7 Pro and I've been very pleased with it. IMO it matches the big name - expensive brands for at least $100 less.

We would agree with the NX7 Pro recommendations 😉

It is totally legit and probably the best quality/value rangefinder out there.

Anything new for 2019 you can tease us with?

I really like my NX7 Pro. However, I have noticed a couple of times recently that it might be sensitive to cold weather. Meaning that the read-outs are weird. For example... I (think) recall seeing something like 7.5 or maybe 6.3. After a short while and as temps warmed a bit the LRF worked as usual. I'm guessing when the temps are low 40's it effects the units internals.

Had the same result a couple of times. Once when there was a light precip/fog, the other time it was cold - maybe mid 40"s other that that it has worked flawlessly.

The cold/adverse conditions will affect an older battery like that for sure.

Not a problem. Good to know. I appreciate the battery offer but if I don't have one here already I can grab one tomorrow at Walgreens or something. I'm enjoying the NX7 Pro very much.

Thanks

I love my Bushnell Tour V2 (does not have slope).

It only tells me straight line distance, so if I'm going up or down hill, I just consider what club would get me there if it were flat, then add or subtract based on what my eyes tell my brain.  It has the jolt that vibrates when you're locked on.  It will pick up pins and anything reflective really.

If the flag is down, I'll just shoot at the people on the green 😉

I trust it more than my Garmin watch, but that does a decent job of giving me front/middle/back yardages to the green.  I use both.

Still a 19/20hcp, go figure 😉
