How many balls would it take you to make a hole in one?

I've never had one, and I imagine I could stand over the same shot 10,000 times and never produce one.  However, they asked PGA Tour pro Brandon Stone to give it a go with 500 shots at one of the par 3s at his home course.  Apparently that's not enough to make it happen for even a pro, but man, he sure got close a few times, and did a good job of ruining the tee box in the process.

I've often had this very thought when I get close on Par 3's.  Like you, I've been playing for decades and have a big fat goose egg in that column. My closest was a heart breaker.  Watched it roll into and bounce off the flag stick which just happened to be leaning towards the ball, leaving a two inch putt - REALLY!!  I've also had this same thought hitting a shot past a tree and hit the tree trunk dead center.  I could probably stand there hitting balls the rest of the frigging day and never hit it again.  Crazy damn game.

Then there's also Ty from Dude Perfect who actually made the shot on camera! The video doesn't show how many tries it took but I'd be equally elated whether it was shot one or shot one thousand.

There's tons of great shots in the video but if you're too impatient, you can speed to the 5:44 mark to see the HiO

I watch these all the time with my kids. Watching it a bit more closely, it's cool to see that he's playing from the blue tees. It looks like there's a set of tees behind him, but there are still two closer. So he's playing it straight up.

After watching Brandon Stone tear up a tee box with 500 misses, I don't see any extra divots on this tee box where he drains it, so I'm going with this is legit.  But to call a hole-in-one right before pulling it off?   Hmmmm...who knows.  Impressive either way.  And yeah, if I get an ace on a par 3 with a lake in front of it, I'm jumping in too.  Might be my only opportunity to celebrate the feat, so why not just go crazy.

Very entertaining video all the way around.

One is all I’ll need.

I may hit that ball 1,000 times, but one ball will be enough.

Based on the number of rounds I've played over the years and the number of times I've come close to a hole-in-one, I'd say infinity. It'd take infinity tries to get a hole-in-one because I just don't believe that it's likely to happen for me. Some guys just have all the luck - I am not one of those guys.

I made one thirteen years ago in ladies golf association foursome best 2 of 4 event. I was the pro on the first par 3 of the front 9. I would hit a shot for each of the groups and they could play my ball if it ended up better than theirs as a foursome.

Mind you, this was thirteen years ago but the 9th or 10th group came through and wouldn’t you know I put one on a rope and pulled it back into the hole.

The funny part was one of the ladies (some old hag we all hated) said “if you make it I’ll give you $100.”

Guess who never saw that $100

Made my first one when I was out practicing one day.  No one was on the course and I took out about 10 balls and was hitting them onto the green.  Was probably about my 7th ball, I topped it, it ran under a tree, took a bounce to the left to avoid the bunker and rolled right into the hole.  So 7, the answer is 7.

It’s not a Hole in One if you hit numerous shots in succession on the same hole. A Hole in One is just that.........one shot one kill. So the math would be the total number of reachable in one shot holes you’ve played x ONE over a given period of time.

My first thought was give me a hundred balls and I could make one. Then I thought about it. How long is the hole? Is it in a good spot? Do I just continue hacking or is there other holes involved?

If it was inside 100 I could see it being within 2-300 shots, but once you start talking about over 150 that's where it would probably take me at least 1000 shots and probably closer to 5000.

Plus isn't the best part of a hole in one the fact you only get one chance at it?
