New Equipment Idea

Recommended Posts

I know that we've got a lot of stand-bag players on this forum.

I don't understand it, mind you, but I do recognize it.

But for the cart-bag users, I have an idea for a new piece of equipment

that the USGA/R&A should approve.

Many if not most of the most popular cart bag models have dividers for fifteen clubs when you include the putter well.

In formal play, one of the slots must be left empty which makes it look

as though you've left a club out on the course.

I hated that and came up with my own solution..

Rather than leave a slot empty, we should have a red velvet draw-string bag

'to put over the club that's been pulled from play.

Removing the red cover over the course of a round would

result in disqualification.

All we need to do is come up with a cool name for the red bag.

That's on you---I came up with the bag.

I dunno about that.  Last winter season, we had two barely get us back to the clubhouse while playing Coyote Wash. We started discussing which of us was going to walk the rest of the way in to shed weight. 😄

Coyote Wash sounds pretty tough, Fix!

It's a challenging layout, quite spread out, and was the most popular course in Yuma when it opened.  More recently it has fallen into bad shape and management.  We only played it once last winter as everyone in the group lamented about overall condition.  The good news is that both ownership and management were being changed this past spring - everyone's hoping it returns to its former glory.

I've been to Arizona once.

My wife dragged me off the beautiful Las Vegas Strip to look at the Grand Canyon,

which is essentially a big hole in the ground.

I guess everybody isn't a nature boy!    Some of us are Neon Knights instead.

But I did learn one thing.  You can really spread golf courses out over there.

Here in the Northeast, we often have to cram eighteen holes into less than 100 acres.

Not so out west.  They have room there.

But what about red velvet drawstring pouches?.

Personally, I think it would look worse with a bag over a club. Would stick out like a sore thumb. Just put your extra clubs in your trunk or keep them at home. You could put alignment sticks in there, or a ball retriever in there. I know of a golf selfie stick that's out now to film your shots with could also be put in there. Or aesthetically set the bag up to be balanced and the empty spot is in the middle for one of the rows.

From an aesthetic view, none of those work for me either.

An empty slot looks like a lost club. Even knowing, it keeps a disturbing thought in one's head.

I certainly don't want anything other than a club---ball retriever, alignment stick, whatever--- in a slot.

The suggested red cover pouch would bother me the least among those, but I do admit that wouldn't look great either..

That leaves separate 14 and 15 slot bags for formal and casual play,

or just not play in formal events.

I don't understand a rule that prohibits a full set.

Just another USGA brain fart.

Honestly, I don't really look at my bag for long, as I'm taking and replacing my club, and I'm focusing on the shot at hand. I don't see the USGA changing their 14 club rule anytime soon.

Especially just because some bag manufacturers put 15 slots.

I don't anticipate the USGA changing either.

I'm merely making a passing reference to my contempt for them, not actually petitioning them.

I still really miss playing golf, obviously, because I still think about these things,

but not being able to play means that I can only continue to talk about it.

(Which, at 15º F,  is all I'd be doing right now anyway.)

So the red drawstring club cover was just an idea.

In real life, I just played with my fifteen clubs anyway,

turned the cards in for handicap anyway,

and never gave a second thought to it like I do now---just  because I'm not playing!

I was obviously never a good enough player that my "local rules"  had an impact on the game of golf,

and the Dukes made me look like a rules Nazi in comparison..

I like the fifteen slot bag, but my next idea for new equipment is a sixteen slot cart bag.

Couldn't be easier--four rows of four.

I looked in my bag,  by the way,  every time I replaced my club and climbed back into the cart.

I lost a club once and never did it again.

Red is a horrible color.  Just sayin'

BTW...  That 15th slot is for the ball retriever that anyone that actually has a cart bag not only has, but they use it.  Goes well with sock and golf sandals.

Really? I have a cart bag, and I don't own a ball retriever, nor would I bother with one. I see plenty of them in stand bags.... and witness enough walkers using them, so.......... I also don't own any sandals of any kind. I'm not sure if you intended your post to come off as snarky, but it does to me.

More like sarcasm...  don't you know that real players carry their bags and only old retired farts use cart bags?

Here's the choice:

you're going to be a retired old fart and then die OR

you're going to die first.

That's the catastrophic price that you pay for winning the swimming race to your conception.

I wish somebody had explained that to me when I was microscopic and still had the option of losing the race.

I wouldn't have had to see that last play from today's game.

Yes sir I am. I absolute hate the bag covers that come with the bags. I think they are a pita. Plus I tend to like stupid things.

I have never actually used the ball retriever on it as I don’t play a lot of course with water. Plus I don’t have the patience to stand there and look for them!
