"Swing Caddy" swing trainer - anyone using it?

Recommended Posts

Happened to run across this interesting looking gadget that claims to help you train your swing for different distances and (according to the product description) "develop muscle memory, rhythm and tempo"...

SwingCaddy1.jpg

(the top one is the Swing caddy; the bottom one is just a shorter version)

The top of the trainer has an adjustment that correlates a swing speed (in mph) to a distance (in yards); when you swing you get an audible "click" feedback telling you at what point in your swing you've reached the target swing-speed to hit the ball the (theoretical) distance...

SwingCaddy2.jpg

So.... Anyone seen or heard of or possibly used this trainer?

And... What is your feedback or what have you heard?

Thanks!
Chuck

Never heard of them. Clicked the link to take a look. Not sure about it at $150. I’d rather buy 30 large buckets of balls to get the “feel” for how hard I need to swing to hit a ball a certain distance. No feedback on the quality of the swing, so I probably wouldn’t spend the $.

I don't think it acomplishes what it advertises. This would train you to put different effort for each swing. Those of us with variable length irons don't rely on a change in effort. We rely on a change in loft and length, not effort. For all of my swings, I hit the ball with 90% effort. I think this training aid doesn't take that into account and would make you change your swing for each club. I believe this would only work if you hit 7 iron only. 😜

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, was wondering the same sort of thing; eg. just *how* do they correlate swing speed and distance...

Was looking at it more for wedge practice over the Winter - if you look at the pic that shows the adjuster dial on the top they have the first few settings marked at 25 - 40 - 65 yards ... which are wedge distances I'd like to work more on. But as has been mentioned, it's a but pricey and real range practice beats indoor simulated practice!

It does seem a good idea on paper. Whether it works or not... I would like to see some comments but i would like one to train at home.

There are a few reviews out there, and they seem to be positive (including Shawn Clement, fwiw). Yeah it would be nice with this kind of thing to be able to try before you buy!

EDIT:

Just read their Return Policy and they do offer 30 day money back less original shipping cost.

Yeah it is, but some of us golfing idiots 😉 like to think we can solve a swing problem by throwing mas dinero into more swing aid gadgets... 😆😆

Hmmm, good point there - it doesn't specifically train your swing, I guess, but one of their claims states the goal is to get the "click" .. or your release point .. at the correct point in your swing, eg. at the bottom and not too early nor too late. Thx!

Shawn Clement was singing the praises of this on his latest podcast so i thought id check it out. I think it looks great. Like a more functional impact snap in my opinion.

However to get one imported to the uk looks like will cost $250 once shipping and import taxes are factored in... ouch!

Yeah, ouch! That's unfortunate....

..I really like this training aid and still use it regularly; tho mostly at the 50 yd setting to practice (simulated wedge / short game) rhythm and tempo.

..I find it's also an excellent complement to the Orange Whip!

Here's a random thought: if you can find a few other UK golfers who want one, maybe you can make one bulk order (and possibly get a discount?) and split the shipping..?

Unfortunately most of my friends arent the practicing type. they just want to get on the course with no warm up etc and hack the ball round.

I got it yesterday and have started training. It takes many weeks or even months before you see any improvement. It is a good product and definitely worth having. However, at higher swing speeds, the magnet does seem to 'stick'; need to tap it firmly on the ground between swings. For an effective workout, I go through the pre-swing routine, tap it on the ground firmly and then swing. It is too early to say, but I believe my swing speed will improve with this product. It is satisfying to hear it click.

Nice! Hope you continue to use it and gain from it.

I'd forgotten about this thread... I still use mine on a semi-regular basis, but more for tempo / timing training - ie. working on getting the *click* juuuust after the bottom of the arc of the swing.

I'm also using it on the "lighter" / shorter distance settings to try to improve my distance control in those shorter ranges.

FYI for full swing training I also have a few different versions of the Orange Whip.

I just came across this training aid myself. Hence why I'm reading reviews.

I've been playing about 6 months and could technically be classed as a senior as I'm approaching 60

I hit the ball pretty well just not as far as I'd like,   but as I haven't had lessons I would put money on me not releasing the club correctly. If this aid can train you to do that then  It is cheaper than going to a pro 10x  for him to. Change everything about your swing before addressing the thing you went there to fix in the 1st place I'm also in the UK so the$175 this thing cost soon ends up well over £200  once shipping and import duty are added.

I basically want to buy this if it will improve my timing and therefore efficiency resulting in higher club head speed. If it does that then £200 is pretty reasonable cimpared to a new driver that you still won't hit any further.

Well... Yes and no, imho.

If (a big "If") you can find the right pro who communicates well with you and who is genuinely interested in seeing you progress - then lessons could be beneficial.

At any rate hope you find the swing trainer helpful and useful in improving your swing timing and release .. good luck!!!
