Mizuno JPX 919 Iron Family

Recommended Posts

I’m going to test out the JPX 919 Forged this afternoon. A friend of mine owns an indoor Trackman facility and has the Tour, Forged, and Hot Metal. I won’t have to pay full retail.

I’m not a consistent enough ball striker to hit the Tour irons. While I play to a 4.4 index, my iron striking has always been my Achilles heel. It has come a long way and I’m probably striking my irons the best I have ever, but still need forgiveness. I’m coming off of Rogue Pro’s with ModusPro 125 S shafts. I love the forgiveness of the RP, while still being able to get feedback. Im not crazy about the spin. They are already a higher spin club and I’m a higher spin player (steeper angle of attack).

I’m not necessarily in the market for new irons, but my friend is offering me a pretty significant discount, so I figured I’d give them a whirl.

What should I expect? Will these heads promote a lower launch and lower spin? The clubs he has has KBS Tour 120s. I may play around in the fitting cart to hammer down the shaft if I like the look and the feel of the head.

Thanks in advance for any honest feedback.

Lots of thoughts here.

Heads launch pretty high, but it will vary by individual.  Spin is lower, but it is expected with cavity back irons.

I'd say the Rogue Pros are lower spinning than the Forged. I'd expect more spin, less, distance, and less forgiveness from the Forged but the May perform differently for your swing. Good Luck!

Saw a discussion over at another site that mizzie is going to introduce a new “pro” version of the hot metal in Feb. just one more thing to mull over...

but the missies are on my short list for this year. Maybe some type of mixed set...

Ye poo. Reo told me about it in November, but didn't have one to show.  According to him it's going to slot between the Forged and Tour but have the Chomoly material.

We discussed the Hot Metal Pro a good bit in the Mizuno 919 iron thread.  It is going after the players distance category - trying to compete with P790, i500, etc

I’ve saved up my pennies and am ready to buy a new set. Was fairly convinced to get a split set of Forged/tour, but now this enters and so I’ll have to wait a few more weeks to see if it really comes out in feb. the players distance thing is addictive to me right now, and even though I really like my ap2’s, I can’t get the mizzy outta my head... I also like that they don’t upcharge for shafts or grips. That makes pretty much everything else get expensive

I'll know more next week.....hopefully!  So stay tuned.

Got to hold them myself today...with security on it's toes not far away.   Looks like the perfect blend between the Hot Metal and Forged.  And as one of the reps there told me,they are the Hot Metal price, not the Forged so that's a great thing.   It's the type  of iron they said they could easily see a JPX Tour player even having in the 4 iron, with some loft adjustments.

Looked really good!

I could see me bagging a 3 iron. As with all Mizuno, I'm sure the performance is top notch. I really wish the badging wasn't the fake spiral milling though. It looks a little tacky.

LOL what happened, dude?

So if it's a blend between the Hot Metal and Forged, why is it placed between the Forged and Tour?

It is placed between the Forged and Hot Metal.  I may have posted the other erslier based on some early information out there.  But assuredly from from hearing it directly this week it is placed as a tweener from Hot Metal and Forged.

Do you feel like they are diluting the brand a bit by adding a 4th JPX line? It seems to me they had the space pretty well covered with the Tour, Forged, and Hot Metal. Admittedly, I haven't read any of the pressers or other stories on what the supposed benefits of the Hot Metal Pro are.
