Mizuno JPX 919 Iron Family

The line that stands says it best about the lineup is a quote from Chris Voshall.  The Brand Manager for Mizuno Golf NA and a heavy background in Mizuno R&D.   "If we were to only make one iron, it would be the JPX 919 Forged"

So basically that says it's the best of everything in the JPX lineup, considering measureables.  Feel, forgiveness and distance.   It's not as long as the Hot Metal or HM Pro, but a bit longer and more forgiving than the Tour.

Ranked from easiest to hit to most demanding looks like this.

Hot Metal

Hot Metal Pro

Forged

Tour

Then in the MP lineup.

MP18 MB

MPCB

MPSC

MMC

And from what I understand the MMC even being the least demanding of the MP series, is still more demanding than the JPX Tour.

A bit more on the HM Pro slotting.  It is designed for the player that likes all the HM has to offer in terms of fast ball speed due to construction but wanted a slightly smaller head profile with slightly less offset.

Hope that helps some.

I would like this 20 times if I could. Thanks for the input. So basically HM and HM pro are their game improvment distance iron and the forged is a blend of that and the tour for the extra feel?

Also I like the look of the MPs so much more than the JPX but I have a feeling that even the easiest to hit MP is probably harder to hit than the JPX tour...is that right?

Yep. Perfectly.

You summed it up much more concisely than I did.   Are you and editor by profession 😎

Ha no, I have to make things simple for myself to actually understand it. 😅

Those forged are mighty nice...Watched Crossfield swoon over them as well...

I also just found out by coincidence this morning that the first and only Mizuno Experience Center is located about 20 minutes from my house where they do free club fittings for all of their products...hmmm

Atlanta, GA right outside of the new braves stadium. Makes sense given that their NA headquarters is in Norcross I believe, about 30 minutes away

919f are definitely more similar to the 585. The 785s fall in between the forged and pro, but definitely closer to the pro.

Yeah, that's what the pro told me. But somehow, I ended up hitting the 785 better than the 585... weird! I "think" I liked the sole on the 785 better...

If you have a shallower angle of attack the 785 (narrower sole) will definitely be better for you.

I was thinking that was the spot; I've heard about that place.  I'm just up the road a bit in G'ville, SC.

Yeah thats not far at all, I'm thinking I'll hit it up just for fun and let you know how it is. Possibly do a review here for it. I mean if they're gonna fit me for free I don't see how I could not go...

Well, I did a fitting for irons today in San Antonio, and the winner was the Hot Metal Pro! Dispersion was 7 yards wide total! They are definitely longer, but I was able to get spin in the same range as my Ping irons right now. All in all, great feeling clubs, great looking, not really thick on the top line, not really thick on the sole.
I went back and forth at the end between the Forged and these, but the numbers were so much better overall with these, so it was obvious. I tried the MMC, Forged, Apex, ApexPro, TM 760, and AP3. Modus 120X were perfect! Tried the DG 120, but I didn’t like the feel. GREAT irons!

Cool.  That is quite an impressive list it beat out.  I still plan on hitting those and the Forged at some point.

The feel is not that different between the two, and the HM Pros had a great sound/feel! Powerful. I felt like I was compressing the ball, but it may have been the face of the club giving me that sensation. They REALLY did a great job with the feel and appearance of these.

That must be it then! Cause I rarely take a divot.
Thanks for the feedback. At least now I know I'm not crazy...

That's good to hear.  I was a tester for the 900 Hot Metals, and they were really very good.  Only reason I didn't continue with them was i got the 718 AP1/AP2 combo from a Titleist event.  Oh and of course, that Im a fricking Club Ho...LOL

May have to give the HM Pro's a serious look over the Forged....If I decide to look at another set that is , hell I've barely put a scratch on the 585's yet 🙄

Honestly Mizuno + Modus is the gateway drug to feels. Did you consider a HM Pro + Forged combo set? I  think that might be the only thing that could make me open my wallet and ditch the 900 Tours.

As someone who struggles to decide what shoes they want to wear to the course, I can't imagine having to make a choice between irons. Count your blessings my dude, you're living the equipment junkie dream.

I did, but the feel of the HMP was SO good, that I decided just to go with them. I also didn’t want to run into a gapping problem if the HMP are somehow “hotter” leaving me with an additional gap. Seeing a 30* club go 197-200 in the fitting REALLY made me want to stick with just this family and not mix them.

I'm a big modus fan.  Both the 120 and 105 have worked well for me in the past.
