What is up with Callaway this year??

Recommended Posts

In recent years, Callaway has made some really REALLY bad product. Recycled iron designs, terrible sounding and performing drivers, and boring putters. But THIS year, something changed. The Clubs for 2010 are AMAZING. Even the Diablo Edge Tour driver, with its Jersey Shore Tattoo is Outstanding. Whoever is running the show down there gets KUDOS from me!!!! Way to GO!!

I think with Mizuno doing as well as it is and OEM's like Ping stepping up their game has provoked them to step things up.

I've been pretty callaway faithful woods and wedge wise, and this new line totally justifies it. I'm excited for these new woods. don't know if i comestically like the jaws though... x -tour and x forged do fine.

Seriously looked at the Diablo fairways, but went Exotics. It was close though.

Form another thread it now seems like I need to pick up a FT9 imix head too.

The IZ may look like a High School Geometry project gone wrong, but the thing flat works. Sounds like a golf club. flight is nice and flat (providing you get the correct shaft), and ball speeds are really high. I like it a lot.

kind of hoped that Callaway would have came out with a 2010 version of the X-Forged or a revamp of the X-Prototypes (even though they look amazing). the Diablo Edge Forged sets up nice, but the graphics in the cavity are a little bold.

2010 does appear to be a fresh year, not recycled Tech, fresh ideas and sold products. I don't need a new set of Irons, but man, i want to go hit a bunch of new ones and be talked into it.

Yes, you sure should! On man, I'm from Sacramento. Born and raised, although I now live in SF near Harding Park.

That's great. Still have lots of friends there, and enjoy the courses there. My favorites are Turkey Creek, Yocha De He and Wildhawk.

Current bag: Some Callaway, some Cleveland. Down to 2 OEM's!

Playing Yoche made my summer last year. What a course!

Wildhawk is very fun too. Forgiving, but interesting. The $30 riding all day Wednesdays is amazing too.

I agree I didn't like the looks of the IZ when it came out, not only that but I wasn't impressed when Callaway decided to ditch square technology. The IZ is awesome, it sounds good and feels great. I don't know how well its gonna be received though, Titleist rocked a triangle driver and it flopped, so it will be interesting to see the buzz about the IZ

I'm not a fan of the Tattoo design, but overall the line looks like it will take off, especially if they are going to be using these to replace the Big Bertha line...

I am with you there. The tribal tattoo thing seems to have gone by a few years ago. I like that they are making it look interesting though. What to use instead, who knows. Celtic symbols as homage to old country golf.

Its simple, but just so you know, thats how they are swingweighted, so your SW will be all over the map

Yocha is an awesome course. Just played there again recently and played well. SWEET greens, and never crowded.

Wildhawk is great during the summer. If you can't score well there, one should take up tennis. LOL! I don't go there on Wednesday's because it's WAY too crowded.

Lead tape looks just as attractive and adds back the missing weight. Call it the $1000 experiment.

I just like he look of debaged irons. I might still do it, and have my guy swingweight them all after the fact.

I think Callaway will be improving more of its club

With Roger Cleveland on their side...

I got a Jaws Gap wedge 52* which eats my golf balls...

so I am reserving this club only on tournament.

Will you feel confident enough with the wedge if you do not practice with it? Does your other 52* have similar feel?

I do this too -- have a casual round wedge and a tournament wedge. Of course, I've got identical models of both my 52* and 58*. Sometimes being a club ho pays off, lol.

Totally get that. I looked at the bag contents in the signature and the other 52* wedge is different.
