New Clubs and Specs

... I just bought 2 new Cleveland RTX-3's for my wife. A 52* mid bounce and a 56* high bounce wedge. I checked the specs before re-shafting them and the 52* was right on spec. But the 56* measured 53.5* and that would be a disaster if they went right in her bag. I do my on work and have a Mitchel L&L machine but realize most do not have a workshop at home. So while you are at the mercy of whoever you buy from online, I would highly recommend having your specs checked in a store before taking any clubs home. And if you buy online from someone with a brick and mortar store nearby, I would take them in and have them checked before playing. It would have been very frustrating for Shari to hit her 56* (at 53.5* only 1.5* higher in loft) about the same distance as her 52* as well as not having a higher loft to play around the green. But most egregious would be lower bounce in what is supposed to be a high bounce wedge, because she needs all the bounce she can get out of the sand.

Being that far off makes me question if it really was a new wedge. I would think a degree but 2.5* seems excessive. What are the tolerances on those wedges?

... They were brand new and still in plastic. I bought my loft lie machine when I was on staff with Titleist and took my original AP2 irons to Golfsmith to check them on their L&L machine and was surprised there was a 1* separation between my 7 and 8 iron. Considering I was on staff and an ambassador for the brand I was shocked they still sent me clubs waaaay out of spec as only two of the 3-pw were on spec. Unfortunately it is not as uncommon as you would think.

It’s pretty typical of many brands. They tolerances are pretty broad for each brand so seeing a 2-3* difference between what was ordered and what shipped is almost normal

I believe most have a tolerance in the 3*-4* range.  Always check.
