another ho hum GD hot list issue has hit the stands

I don't know if it's just me, but it seems like GD is putting less and less effort into making this issue. It could be a function of a crappy economy but who knows? In addition the clubs reviewed this year don't particularly inspire much of anything, in my strictly personal opinion.

 

What do the rest of you think?

Working on posting my opinion for the blog this week. I think they have some interesting additions added for 2011 in GD but the Hot List is not one of them.

I think it's a general problem for all print media. The Internet has made print media a very expensive affair that is rather inconvenient to acquire. Over and above the simple matter of cost of printing and distribution is also the smothering effect of blogs such as this one on the topics involved.

 

It is no longer all that difficult or expensive to become a publisher. The work is still as large but the easy availability of alternative publications has grown. Couple that with the easy feedback availability from consumers and we have a new ballgame.

Knowing the way media is going at the moment they would've previously had several people working on the hot list. This year it was probably left to one guy to compile in a day because half the staff were made redundant.

 

It doesn't make sense, if you newspaper/magazine sales are going down, laying off staff isn't going to help your sales, it will make it worse because your product becomes crap and full of mistakes. Which the readers will notice and stop buying, further reducing sales.

I stopped reading GD. The viagra ads were starting to get to me. The "tips" were playing with my head and ruining my game especially a few issues later when another pro tells you not to try that.

Too late it is already embedded.

I want to see reviews on non-main-stream manufacturers, the smaller club builders, the lesser well known yet still turning out good products.

I cancelled my subscription to golf digest after they had a picture of tiger superimposed with obama on the cover. Not that I am political but you cant watch anything without obama on or in it.If I want to read about him I will buy a paper ,not in a golf magazine.Also I dont think you get honest reviews about equipment when you are paid by the manufacturer. jmo

The "Not" column for the Nike Method Core Series putter states only that, "Tiger doesn't play it"....now that is a really constructive review.
