I bet it won't be long before he starts putting some Tour Sauce on it. 🏌️‍♂️🤗

Without question. His club twirl is a bit shaky, but I've seen him walk in a few putts already.

This kid's wear patterns are way better than mine:

Looking forward to taking a little trip with Kirke next week. I'm speaking at a men's retreat in lower Michigan. It kicks off with a scramble, and Kirke is coming to participate (there's the possibility I was invited as speaker just because the pastor wanted to play with Kirke). I'm also planning on a couple of rounds with Kirke on the drive down and back again.

This is a great use of squishy apples and a great use of slow motion:

And here's Christopher's (4) swing. You can see he has a strong move through the apple. Just like on the course, he tends to have a heavily downward angle of attack:

I must have put my last post in this thread at the wrong time. No one liked videos of smashing apples with drivers? 🙂

Anyway, Kirke and I had a fun weekend last week. We drove down to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan so that I could speak at a men's retreat from the church I grew up in. The retreat began on Friday with a scramble. On a couple of holes, they put out coolers with candy bars. Anyone whose shot finished on the green was entitled to a candy bar. So of course, Kirke picked up two free candy bars:

And then on another short par 3 (from the red tees), Kirke beat every man in the field to win a closest to the pin:

This shot is about 95 yards. You can see him hold off a bit on the finish, because he's trying to get his driver to land softly. The ball finished two feet from the cup, and he tapped in for a birdie for our team.

On Sunday between services, we went to a Golf Galaxy (we love hitting golf stores when we actually have the chance to do so). Kirke loved that they had clubs out for demo, even though they were adult clubs:

Last note in this post: Facebook reminded me this morning that on this date four years ago, Kirke played his first ever nine-hole round.

As if I needed more evidence that Kirke's hand-eye coordination is better than mine has ever been, here's his attempt at a Happy Gilmore from our round today:

On a more serious golf level: we played 9 holes, and he parred all nine, taking 15 putts. And nice clean round.

And here's another indication of Kirke's natural ability:

Now it's important to clarify: Kirke has a level of ambidexterity. He eats and writes left handed. He plays golf and throws right handed. In soccer, he clearly prefers his left foot.

But still, his lefty swing is cleaner than my right handed swing.

Jealous. Would have been incredibly handy to be a switch hitter. Not sure if baseball interests him at all, but sounds like he'd be a natural fit for it.

I think we'll do baseball next season. He's played a few years of 6U soccer now. Had his last game this past Saturday, and he scored five goals. He must get his athletic ability from my wife, because he sure didn't get that from me!

That is just beautiful!  We don't get trees like that in central Oklahoma.

Just skimmed through this whole thread and I gotta say, I am so jealous of Kirke's swing right now.  He really looks like he knows his stuff.

I'm just waiting for my brother to make me an Uncle then I'll have a little guy, or girl, to teach.  Maybe by then I'll know what I'm doing.

It definitely does.

Obviously, it varies. In the 7+ years I've lived here, the latest I've played is the week of Thanksgiving (and then it snowed about 6 inches that Friday). Normally, we can expect to play through most of November. I'm normally willing to play in anything over 45°. I'll go a little lower on a sunny day without wind.

Did something today I've wanted to do for a long time: I left my clubs behind, took a camera, and recorded a full round with Kirke. Here's the first nine that we played (the back nine at our course). Kirke starts out rough: a bad second shot on the first results in a double bogey, and a tree on the second adds another bogey. From three over, he battles back into the round:

And here's the front nine (which we played second yesterday). He makes a number of bogeys early in the round, so we have to work through a bit of frustration, but he has another really nice finish:

While I haven't gotten to finish the video of the second part of Kirke's round, one of the things that really impresses me is the speed control he has on the greens. He leaves himself makeable second putts a lot. That putt from the fringe on 18 was just spectacular! Thanks for sharing these videos!
