2019 Official MGS Fantasy Golf League

I'd be interested if there's room.  If my performance in the Wilson contests last year is any indication, you all could breathe a sigh of relief knowing you wouldn't finish last.😎

I always try to remember that I'm not good enough to get mad!

THE LEAGUE IS LOCKED
Let's do this

The voting is done, the league is full, the draft, divisions, and schedule are set.  It's go time.  We ended up with 32 players which has doubled the league from last year and, surprisingly, surpassed the fantasy football league size.  This should be great fun and have no issues whatsoever 🙂

I've got a number of things to cover in this post so please read it all carefully:

_____________________________________________

Vote Results

  • League Makeup
    • 4/6/10 (same as last year) Wins by a vote of 15-2-8-0-1
  • Draft Time (Snake Format)
    • Jan 30, 8pm EST Wins by a vote of 15-7-2
  • Divisions or Not
    • Divisions wins by a vote of 17-9
    • Divisions "TRUTH" and "DIGEST" were split up by draft time vote
      • If you voted for 8PM EST, you're in TRUTH and draft at 8PM EST on Jan 30
      • If you voted for anything else, you're in DIGEST and draft at 9PM EST/6PM PST on Jan 30
    • TOP 8 FROM EACH DIVISION WILL MAKE PLAYOFFS

_____________________________________________

Season Format

We're going with our homespun method since we haven't heard back on the format requiring Fantrax intervention. Here we go:

  1. Standard weeks will have 2 randomly generated match-ups
  2. Tier 2 events will have the standard 2, plus a match-up with the person above and below you in divisions standings (4 total)
    • @Berg Ryman will make a separate post stating which events will be Tier 2 and why
  3. Majors will be the same as Tier 2 events, but you'll also have a match-up against the League Average (5 total)
    • League Average is the average points per team.  You'll face this number just like a normal matchup
  4. 68 total regular season games
  5. Playoffs will be as stated before in the pool brackets

_____________________________________________

Team Names

Here's a quick PSA.  To keep things straight, we really need the team names OR abbreviations to be similar to your MGS forum name.  Would the following managers please change your team name OR abbreviation:

_____________________________________________

Good luck to everyone this year!

_____________________________________________

Edit: The Prize

As you probably could've figured, the prize to our champion will be:

1) Badge on your profile

2) A 2020 MGS Testing Golden Ticket*

*rules apply

_____________________________________________

Edit 2

Yes, this means the #1 and #16 teams will match up in Tier 2 and Major events. More incentive to get to #1 or stay out of #16.

If a standard matchup puts you against someone in standings proximity for Tier 2 and Majors, you could have 2 matchups against the same team..... So be it.

This should be a lot of fun.  I have never thought about doing Fantasy Golf before until this year.  No clue how it works so hopefully I don't embarrass myself!

I find it more fun than football. Except when you have a guy that wins the tournament and you still lose... that happens when your other players have like 13 combined bogeys or worse.

I don't know if that is possible for me.  I really enjoyed winning the football league this year!🤣

Hey, me again with another rules type post, so pay attention.

TIER TWO EVENTS

What makes a Tier Two Event?

When @GolfSpy STUDque explained his vision as that certain tournaments were going to worth more than others, I sent my head a spinning as to try and figure out what events should stand a cut above the standard tour events. I had to rack my brain to come up with criteria but it settle pretty quickly into my usual mush. Here were my thoughts

1) Big Names in the field

A tier two event should feel important, it should have big names and be regarded as one of the bigger tournaments of the year because of this. Sadly, people like the John Deere because it has a couple of stars, people love Pebble because it has a ton of stars.

2) Classic events with reputation

Again, I love Harbour Town, it's great, but if you had to say which was the bigger event, is it Harbour Town, or is it Colonial?

3) MONEY

The big decider really, the bigger the purse the more likely your big names are showing up

The PGA Schedule

This is quite possibly the hardest thing toward picking these events as Tier Two, Most of the tournaments we regard as classics group together, and with the major switch this year of the PGA being in May, it means I wanted to keep at least a fair amount of distance between events. It's why some events you think should be here may not be, it just puts too many big point earning opportunities too close to the front of the schedule and not the end. Stud and I ran through multiple looks at this before we settled on something that struck a decent balance and more importantly, gave fireworks to the finish of the schedule.

YOUR TIER TWO EVENTS

THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP (Mar 14-17)

THE WELLS FARGO CHAMPIONSHIP (May 2-5)

THE MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT (May 30-Jun 2)

THE WGC FEDEX ST. JUDE INVITATIONAL (Jul 25-28)

Why these events?

Well, let's start with the easy selections. The Players was always a Tier two evet when we discussed this, as was WGC's. The Memorial always brings the best players in to Jack's house and the Wells Fargo is perfectly situated between the Masters and the PGA for most players to end up their as a tune-up for the PGA and the first start after Augusta. The way our scheduling works is that you have a tier three event in The Open, followed by a tier two event in St. Jude, followed by a standard event in the Wyndham, then the playoffs begin. It's a crazy finish to a season that admittedly lacked some excitement last year, so Stud and I are trying this. Will it work, he hope it does and that you all enjoy it. So, in case you're wondering, here is the tentative season schedule, with + denoting Tier Two and * Denoting Tier Three Events

Anyone else having issues with the Fantrax site?  I'm trying to rank players, as I most likely won't be able to draft "live".  I've been getting an error message on their website for about two days while attempting to complete my rankings.

"Where'd it go?"  "Right in the Lumberyard..."
