Grips... get a grip

Recommended Posts

So I’ve done a few searches but can’t seem to find a thread or category for grips.. so if there is one, please give me directions! Thanks

with that, I put a MCC Plus 4 “Align” on my 6 iron and just got back from the range. I liked it a lot. No problems like blocks or fades. Only thing that was hard was getting the alignment “spine” straight during installation.

anyways it seemed like I could knock the ball well, and I think it’ll help my arthritic fingers a bit too. Anyone else using the “Align” grips?

I'm on my second one on my driver (decided to replace the first one after 100+ rounds) and really like it. They'll be on my hybrids and irons as I start replacing grips.

I tried one once before on my driver, not sure if I gave it enough of a chance, and ended up switching it out. However, I'm wanting to go back to the MCC Plus4 Midsize grips, and I'm considering going the Align route again, and actually giving them a shot.

Had the privilege of being on their testing panel for these in the standard MCC version (just go to their website and signup if anyone is interested), got it in the mail and tried it on the 3wood and gotta agree the spine didn’t make installation easy but it works just as advertised. My only beefs are they’re pricey as far as grips go, and in midsize at least, the grip seems to be a bit larger than in the normal MCC. Still a great one to try and could definitely see it helping with aches and pains in the hands.

In the bag

Ribbed grips were awesome for feel players. I always liked the ribbed Green Victory GP grips growing up.

This week I saw (maybe they’ve been out longer) that they’ve added Align to the Tour Velvet which is nice. I’m hoping they’ll make a Tour Wrap align soon.

Have not tried them. Decided to play an old driver(PowerBilt AFO) that had a Winn Dritec grip. Had been in my garage for 8 years so the grip started out okay but deteriorated as the day went on. I regrouped with another Winn Dritec and played it the next day. Terrific feel. Note to self, keep clubs inside the house....LOL

I use them on my irons because they came on there and thought I'd give em a chance. I don't notice the align anymore, not sure if I got used to it or what. I love the reduced taper. Good grips, I've since started putting the standard plus 4 on the rest of my clubs.

You can find grip info here...https://forum.mygolfspy.com/forum/24-clubmakingclub-repairfitting/

I bought a set of the tour velvet align and put them on my irons and hybrid. Definitely need to take your time and check your lines but it's not too difficult to install them yourself.

The rib is subtle, especially with a glove on but you can sense it being there. I'll be putting them in play during a golf trip next week. They were $9 each ... A little more than a regular grip, but if they help me consistently square the face at impact they'll be priceless...😊

I also just got a set of  the Golf Pride Align grips. Put them on the hybrid and irons. First range session with them yesterday and I saw improvement. One of my (bad) habits is poor control at the top of the backswing, including loosening my right hand on the handle. The rib in the Align grip gave me something tangible to use to minimize that.

I really like the medium sized Winn Dri Tac's.........Started on my driver..last year had the whold bag re-gripped. Nice feel, and a little spongy for old fingers. Highly recommended by me and Butch Harmon. But, Butch gets paid for his endorsement.

Thanks for finding that thread...  I was going to search, but.

More importantly:  Where's the Golf trip taking you?!?

I played some of my best golf with Winn grips on my old Callaway X-14's.  Changed over to Lamkin with my Mizuno's, but might go back to Winn's for a while and see what happens.

South Texas.  Meeting my buddy from OR there.

How far South?  I get down there a good bit; have business travel scheduled to Houston & Austin in the next 60 days.  I have a customer that is a member at Austin Country Club.  Keep your fingers crossed for me! 🤞

I am looking to get my irons re-gripped but wasn’t sure what to go with. I have been a fan of GP but wanted to give someone else a shot. Instead of switching them all over at once, I had my 7i gripped with Winn Dri-Tac X.
I agree with the spongy feel but overall I wasn’t that impressed. Maybe I’m used to the feel of MCC4 grips. Don’t think I’ll be moving rest of the clubs to Winn and considering to continue my loyalty with GP.

These might be my might next choice for my irons. My driver, 3/4w have MCC4+ midsize.

My hybrid still has the standard grip - I’m almost afraid to change it out since I hit this club the best as it is. Though every time I grab it out of my bag it just feels so small!

Just ordered a full set of Pure DTX grips for my clubs before they head to Florida. I'll regrip my driver when I'm down there because there's a very good chance that I'll be picking up a new one the day after I arrive.

How did you go about choosing Pure Grip? Did you have a chance to check them out before purchasing?
I ask since I have read into them and followed via social media and thought about going that route. I just have a hard to going with a grip that I haven’t been able to feel out before purchasing.
