Hello, everyone!

Just wanted to introduce myself -- longtime reader of MGS and forum lurker. Finally decided to pull the trigger on signing up.

I've been playing golf for a long time, dating back to knocking it around in my pre-teenage years with my father at the local par 3. Never took lessons or was very good, to be honest. My junior year of college I played 3-5 rounds a week for a few months and broke 90 (89) once on the course I played all of the time. Always had a nasty flip through release. Hit it very high and very short, and if my timing was off, it was ugly.

Moved around quite a bit after college and only played a few times from 2012-2018, until I tried to pick it up more seriously last summer. Struggled mightily at the beginning, about gave up, but with lots of YouTube coaching and a tripod for my cell phone camera (how did I live without this?!) I've made some really good strides toward a good swing. Namely, I am now properly balanced in the swing and have no need to flip at the ball anymore.

Spent some money last fall heading into this winter on new clubs and gadgets, including a Swing Caddie that is really too cool.

I play around the western half of Michigan, and I am hoping to expand my horizons a bit this upcoming year and play some courses I haven't in the past. I was able to get out and play for the first time last weekend, shooting a 10-over 46 on a really easy local track, but minus two double bogeys (one caused solely by terrible course management), I felt I played really well.

In the future I'm hoping to get a Skytrak simulator in my garage and perhaps get into building some of my own clubs. I am currently waiting on parts to arrive for my DIY SuperSpeed project, which was inspired by the posts here.

Love the work MGS does. I am looking forward to contributing here however I can.

Welcome from the UP eh!

College roommate of mine is originally from Ishpeming. Been up there a handful of times, Houghton as well. Minus the short season, you do have some wonderful courses I'd love to play.

In Marquette, used to live in Houghton. It’s nice from July 1 to July 2.

Welcome!  Displaced Michigander now in SC.  I'm trying to decipher your username...  Ed in "GC"?  Can't figure the "GC".  I grew up in Greenville, lived in Grand Rapids for a long time, also played a lot of W. Mich golf.  If I can help with ideas of places to play, let me know.  Be active & have fun here; LOTS of smart golf minds to cultivate.

Jealous of the better weather. Have visited SC, namely Charleston and Isle of Palms, twice. Wonderful area.

I'm in the NW corner, close to GA & NC.  You still haven't told us the secret behind your username....  We may need to have a contest!

Took about a year, but now have officially flipped my bag for the first time. Year before, I began inundating myself in golf knowledge and equipment. Learned how the swing path and club face work together, how to shape shots and have made great progress. Now I know exactly what I'm doing, and most often know why. So far I've seen my handicap drop significantly, (15-17 down to 5-8). Technically at this point, I'm a 5 handicap, but that was one score out of 5 (5, 18 hole rounds. I've played quite a bit of 9 hole rounds) and I believe I'm closer to an 8 realistically. But maybe I'll be lower and near a 5 this year with thMP-18e clubs in my bag fully updated and have more experience with each club.
Updated my driver and 3W shaft as well after getting them last year and I think that will be a game changer and lower my scores by hitting more fairways. Drastically improved my iron game with getting fitted and buying Mizuno MP-18 mixed set. Can shape my shots and get very consistent distances, so I'm pretty excited for this year. Wedge game improved quite a bit too and now have rounded out the SM6 set completely. Also really excited as I've been rolling the new Taylormade TP Black Copper Juno nicely in the basement, and getting very consistent rolls and forgiveness. Never have really been excited about a putter, but the black copper is sexy, and it performs.
Looking to get on simulators a few times this winter, heated driving range a few times, a big golf show to attend, Taylormade demo fitting, and plently of swinging and putting in the garage and basement. Looking forward to early spring and am optimistic for my best golf yet.
