Would you be interested in MGS Virtual Golf League

Ladies and gentlemen I’ve been toying with the idea of developing a virtual golf league. This league would be made up of real golfers playing golf on real golf courses. A live leaderboard would be maintained and updated real time as individual golfers submitted their score cards. The end goal would be to bring together golfers from around the globe to compete virtually against one another over a designated season.

I have been making notes, brainstorming and researching how best to bring this idea to reality. I’m not going to include specifics at this time nor am I looking for input/recommendations today (I will in the future). I’m just trying to do a little discovery learning to determine if there is enough interest out there to continue to push forward with the idea.

As a disclaimer I will at least say this.......if the league is established the scores submitted will be done so based on the honor system. I am not going to expend a lot of energy on checking the integrity of each individual participant. I provide this disclaimer because I know some folks are not interested in any level of competition where there are very few control measures to guard against the submission of suspect scores. I respect those feelings but will most likely not recruit the FBI or CIA to provide oversight.

Is this league something you would be interested in joining?

I thought there was an app that would let you follow your friends or make a group and see all of the scores posted. I'll see if I can find it.

I’ve used a couple apps for different golf groups but those apps only captured scores from the same course played at the same time just in different groups. Blue Rounds Golf was the last one I used which is a tournament app. I’m not sure if there is an app that will adjust for slope and rating plus net score from different courses. I’m not an spreadsheet expert but I’m pretty sure I could build something that could automatically do all of the above as I entered the data. Thinking out loud here but maybe a requirement would be a digital picture of your signed card co signed by a witness. That card could then be entered manually into the spreadsheet with a copy of the card attached.

I’m definitely not a tech savvy dude but I know a few folks who are very good at this type thing.

ORGANIZE GOLF LEAGUES AND TOURS USING THEGRINT

Posted on January 8, 2013 by TheGrinter
Using TheGrint Tours section you can organize small virtual competitions as well as large group leagues. In this post we will explain how to do so. Is very simple.

What is a Tour?

Every Tour is composed of events and players. Just like the PGA tour. So you need to create/schedule the events and add the players that will play in each of those events. The Tour will rank each of the player according to their performance and show it on the main Leaderboard.

So let’s say that you have a golf league of 30 golfers that play once a month for one year. Then that Tour will have 12 events, and the organizer will have to add those 12 events with dates to that Tour.

The one difference we have is that we also created this feature for regular folks like you and I who have a group of golf buddies, that don’t necessarily live on the same city or play together. That’s why our events have “deadline dates” and not “dates”. That means that in order to compete in an event, the player have the opportunity to post a score within a period of time. After that deadline date, the system will not allow the player to upload the score to that event. Is up to the organizer to decide the rules.

I’d join this. We’re going to also be doing the ShotScope V2 leaderboard this year as well. Might be similar, maybe not.
Fun stuff.

I started using The Grint to set up the Spy Tour Dates. It looks like this will work. I’ll continue to run some tests. Thank you for the link. This could be pretty awesome.

OK.... I have some interest. There's a ton of online sites and apps and such available. I recently looked at one that the michigan golf team will be using. I can't recall the name right now but if I do I'll post a link.

Anyway... I curious and interested. If there is a Sr. Flight. 60+ and no money payouts. Perhaps just a forum badge.

Let me know if you want any more of my 2 cents.

OK here is the link. I remembered. HA! Not sure if it's a paid service or free.
