Samoset Resort - Rockport, ME

Recommended Posts

We're planning on a big family trip to Camden, ME this summer, and my daughter and I get to bring our clubs.  Has anyone played or heard anything about Samoset Resort?  The pics look amazing.  It's not cheap, but I don't know when I'll ever be in Maine again, so I'm willing to spend the money if it's going to be memorable.

Right in my backyard, baby!  If you look out beyond the breakwater, you'll see me waving to you from North Haven.  The Samoset is a pretty nice course.  I've played it a couple of times.  I do think it'll be memorable enough to justify a vacation round.

I’ll be watching for updates. Potential location for me in SW Harbor.

Southwest Harbor is a beautiful area, and not far from Kebo Valley, which is one of the premier courses in the state.  It can be pretty busy in the summer with all of the tourists, but all of MDI is nice and Acadia National Park has some beautiful areas.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.  I hardly ever play any place really nice, so I'm looking forward to this.  If this place is half as nice in person as it is in pictures, I can't wait to get out there.

If you have any suggestions on other places to play, I'd love to hear them.  Cheap and fun but a little scruffy is fine for a second round.

The two that come instantly to mind are Rockland Golf Club which I've played several times, and Goose River (I think that's its name) which I've never played.

Rockland Golf Club is only a couple of miles from The Samoset, and has consistently been a good place to play.

I've driven by Goose River about a million times, but not actually played there.  It's either in Camden or Rockport.  I don't know which technically, but it's on a back road between the two.  It always looked like a neat place to play, and I'm not sure why I never did.

I’m in Maine for business right now. I’ll ask around tomorrow and see if I get any good suggestions for you. Are you flying or driving?

Where are you doing business?  Always interested in who knows what about Maine, because I sure don't know it all.

Okay Looper, I worked with a guy yesterday that has played Samoset quite a few times.  He said it is awesome and calls it the Pebble Beach of the East so it is well worth the money in his opinion.  Unfortunately when he goes to that area it is only to stay at the resort and golf so he had no lower cost options in that immediate area.  Sorry but that is about all I could get.  Also thanks for bringing the course to my attention.  When it warms up I think I'll head up there for a round or two.

Cool, I appreciate you asking around for me.  It sounds like it's definitely worth it.  I'm incredibly excited about playing it, and I'll be sure to post some thoughts about it once I do.

Played Samoset last week and finally got the chance to write the review.  Wow.  All I can say is wow.  I'd say it's a must play.
