GB13
Interesting... Definitely an evolution of the G400 as opposed to a rebuild. I like PING as a whole but the G400 irons didn't do it for me. These appear they will be in the realm of no go. For those that liked the G400's, these should be great. Slap
I bet these play nice, but I'll stick with the G's for now. I played with someone this weekend who was gaming the G20 irons and they look really really similar to the G410's. The G20s are just missing the ferrule really. The whole G410 line doesn't look too good to me. The whole G410 line doesn't look too good to me. Saw them in person last week and have them quite a look. They are nothing like the G20 (IMO) they are s very nice looking club and much skimmed down from the G400. I personally loved the Black and Red of the driver. fixyurdivot
I've been reading some of the reviews, including MGS's on this latest iron. My iron fitting last summer had the G400's as #1 against the Mizuno JPX900, Ping I200, Taylormade M3 irons I evaluated. They describe the G410 as a balance between a players iron and a SGI iron, a bit smaller profile than the G400's, and more distance focused. My game and ball striking has definitely improved since retiring and getting more rounds under my belt. Based on second half of this winter's season, I'm playing close to a 12 handicap. In my "Former PE2 Players" thread a few of you commented that being able to move up a club+, based on the longer length, would be a significant benefit - better accuracy and more GIR hitting a 7 or 8 vs. a 6 or 7. I'm wondering if, based on my play, I should be considering an iron a bit more towards the players category? The JPX900 HM are in the GI category with a 685 MPF. The I200's, Conventional/474 MPF, the TM's SGI/776, and my PE2's SGI/724. I haven't seen any data on the G410's. Is anyone currently playing these irons or recently tested them out? Which of Ping's previous generation irons do you feel they most closely emulate? I'm getting fitted for the G410 Plus driver tomorrow and hope to test this iron out as well. fixyurdivot
One issue that the G400's have is the "hydro-pearl" finish not holding up very well. In another Ping iron thread, someone stated that they've gotten away from using the "Captain America's Shield" material of the PE2 era - arguably the most durable irons ever. I did test the G400's last summer and liked them, but to be honest, the wearability issue (or lack thereof) concerned me. Having stains appear on a set of $1000+ irons is no good for me. Now planning to test the G410's in the next few months, I sent Ping Customer Service an email asking whether the G410's use the same finishing process as the G400's. Here is the response: Dear Bill, The G410 irons do have an improved hydropearl 2.0 finish which is more durable than the original hydropearl finish on the G400 model. ZJBogey2
I was recently fit for irons and went with the G410s (white dot). The distance gains from my older GI Irons (TaylorMade Rocket Bladz) have been almost too much (each club 5-GW is going an extra 15--20 yards). It's taking some time to figure out my club selection. Those gains are likely from both the club technology and getting clubs that fit me. The feel is great and they look great at address. Just comparing to my PE2's, the standard loft configuration looks to be easily an iron different - the power lofts would a BIG adjustment. I plan to ask my fitter about this when I hit test the 410's, KZG and ??? later this spring. Compared to my TM Rocketbladz HL the lofts on the Pings vary from 0.5 on the longer irons to 1.5 degrees on the shorter irons. The fitter had me hit some Srixons (Z 585 I think) and I liked those as well.
