Do yourself a favor and at least demo an iron or two.  You will not regret it.  Even if you hate the clubs, it only cost you $20.

Thanks for coming out and visiting!!!  Jason is great to work with and is really passionate about getting people into the right setup.  For anyone that's not in the area...we will always do everything we can to provide a great fitting by phone, email or through social media chats.  The demo program is a great option to help narrow it down as well.  Thanks for the feedback and support!

For those that have the CB/MB combo set, how do the top lines look?  Is the CB any thicker than the MB?  If you had to compare the look from address to any of the big(ger) brand clubs, what would you compare these to?

Sycamore IL is directly en route to the UP from Salt Lake City, no?

I will try and get some photos up of my combo set. I can compare them with the Srixon 765 and 965.

The CB are very very slightly thicker than the MB...and honestly the MB's are probably some of the thicker blades you will find. I dont mean that as a bad thing, but if people are looking for slimmer blades then these are not it. With that being said ive loved the performance of them all year. Performance wise id put these up against anything on the market.

is there better?? Yea... Is there worse?? Yea. But for the price you definitely will be very happy! These are high quality forged irons for an unbeatable price

The top line on the SRIXON 965 is 5mm.  The top line on the SUB 70 MB is 4.5mm  very close, but the Sub 70 is thinner.  You can see it in the photos.  The Sub 70 also have a slightly smaller profile which is nice.

im surprised by that. I had the 965s last year and liked the look, definitely on the longer side of blades. The 7-P MB's I have look chunky. Sometimes I think I may have gotten the MB Plus instead. Ill post a pic when I get home but my PW is very thick up top and noticeable offset

I think there is slightly more offset on the SUB 70 MB's vs the Srixon giving that look.  I measured them where the face lines meet the top line on the toe.

I had my sub 70 hat on at the range today and one of our Mini Tour guys was all over me. He’s very interested in the CBs - that should tell all of us something.

I have a friend with those and told the guy I would invite him (my friend) to play a week from Sunday afternoon. He said he’d meet us on the range to try them - my friend has Project x 5.5’s in his so the guy will at least get a feel for them.

I was playing at the simulator at the course I’ve taken lessons at. The pro who gave me lessons was there so I had him take a look at my Sub 70 irons. He had heard of them and been on their website but had never seen any of their products up close. He was very impressed by the quality of them.

I just talked with Sub 70's CEO, Jason Hiland, for ten minutes about my game and what I want and need in my next set of irons. Based on our conversation, I'm gonna demo both their new 699 Pro irons and 639 CBs and make a decision from there. Where else are you gonna get that kind of customer service?

I was considering another set of Ben Hogan irons, but having a direct line to the CEO is a difference-maker for me. Who else stands behind their products to that degree?

I'm taking a good hard look at their hybrid, anyone have some good experience there?

Also, after being a Lynx Black Cat tester, and roaming around on the Sub70 site for a while, the 699 irons and the Black Cat look very similar - I wonder if they are from the same "open" design (I think that's what it's called)

Either way, I'd love some feedback on the hybrid! My current hybrid is 10 ish years old by now

Hybrid is a solid club;   I like it,  just didn't perform as well as the Titleist for me but that could be due to the shaft.    I have one for sale in the classified section if you are interested.

Finally hit the 3 wood the other day. Aside from my swing being off from not touching a club for 3 or so months, it's solid. Off the deck, when I actually put a decent swing on it, I was getting 205+ and off the tee it's somewhere past 220.

Great thread so far and very informative!

Couple of questions for @GolfSub70:

 - What is the black finish made of?  Is it the crappy PVD or some other type of "surface coating" that wears rather quickly, or something more durable like black nitride or DBM?

 - Is it, or will it at some point be, possible to get the black finish on other models besides the 639cbs?  Or even possibly raw?  I could see the added expense of doing just a few 1-offs of a certain head in black for "special orders", but offering in raw should actually help with cost as its one less step of the finishing process.  (Plus in my case, if I wanted to add the black nitride myself if you don't offer it, it would save me the expense of stripping the chrome first 🙂 )

 - Any updates on the modified MB version pictured a few pages back (639-G i think it was called)?  I know it was mentioned it wouldn't be available until sometime in 2020, if at all, but here we are already!  To be honest I'm not really in the market for new irons this year, but at this cost, a set of those in a durable black finish look very intriguing!

 - I saw mention on twitter of a 699 Pro, but can't find any info on your website - can you elaborate?

 - Since you don't offer heads only for purchase, can you at least ship the clubs un-assembled if I were to purchase the "full club"?  Reason I ask is I always make some customizations to my irons before use (doweling, pro-soft inserts, custom ferrules/grips, etc.) and this would simplify the process.

They must've just put that up, I swear it wasn't there over the weekend.  Anyway, Sweet Baby Jesus!  Those look amazing, very clean, minimal "branding", reduced head size and offset, and a durable nitrocarburized finish.  I may have to pick up a demo when available.

Also anxiously awaiting if they announce plans to release that 639-G they teased earlier - that in black could be the one!  I swore I was set on equipment for the year, but at this price for a nice new set of toys it's hard to pass up.  I'm still thrilled with my TM P770s and have no intention of ditching them, but a demo of of the 639-G or 699 Pro could make that thinking go right out the window.

Thanks for the message and sorry for the delay getting back to you. Please see below for some answers to your questions...

The 639 black irons do have a tour PVD finish. In our testing we haven't observed any major wear or other issues with the finish. The 699 Pro will be using a DBM finish though.

We do have black 639 MBs now...so full black MB or black MB/CB combo sets can be purchased. We've discussed offering irons in the raw finish, and the 639 forged line would obviously be the choice for that, but we haven't made a final decision on that at this point. I think we'll do it eventually. Just a matter of getting other projects taken care of first.

We're definitely still working on these in some capacity...but not entirely sure how much they'll resemble the original prototype when they're done. We're working with Tommy Armour III to create another forged iron model and some of the 639-G features might be incorporated. They'll be available in a high end black finish and will be a great players forged iron with a few differences from our current CB or MB

 - I saw mention on twitter of a 699 Pro, but can't find any info on your website - can you elaborate?

I believe that was posted above already...if not, there should be some info on our website now

I don't think that would be an issue...I would just reach out to our CEO Jason Hiland at 815-621-3556 or Jason@GolfSub70.com to make that happen. He'll definitely do whatever he can to get you what you need.

Thanks again for the questions!

I am really interested in the 639 mb and I have seen and tried one of their wedges from a friend  and I loved it. AIso see nothing but positive reviews of them everywhere I read, but my only question is the gapping between the Pw in the set and the wedges don’t line up. The PW is 45* and the closest wedge that would make sense for my gapping would be a 50, 54, 58 preferably. Downside is they don’t have a 50 or 58.  Any chance those will be coming out anytime soon?

1 degree difference in loft with a wedge is abou 3-4 yards...highly doubt any amateur would be affected by that type of gapping, wedges and irons can be bent to better gap if needed. Someone that can hit different shots with clubs by choking down, shorter swings and/or ball placement can get around “loft” issues.

Lastly tons of wedge options out on the market
