Sub70 golf

I talked with Jason and ordered one the other day. Should ship by Friday and be here next week. We took the 56 degree and bent the loft one degree to get to 55 degrees. In doing this it also changed the bounce from 12 degrees to 11. Then went with a heavier shaft and soft tipped it. The Gap wedge on the 699 Pro series that I play is 50 degrees and I love having a 60 degree in the bag. This gets me an even spread. 50 - 55 - 60. The satin finish wasn't available yet so I went with the black. The Cleveland CBX 56/12 that I currently play was not always reliable in hard pack sand or tight lies. So with the special grind sole on the JB wedge I should have a more versatile club.

I know it’s just like, my opinion, but since Sub70 is involved in this thread I just wanted to say the fish scale milling looks atrocious. The MB’s/CB’s would look so much better if they either had the straight lines and smooth areas like the 699’s or the tighter milling pattern like on the JB wedges.

Who here is gaming the 699U in a 3 or a 2i and if you are are you still liking it? Thinking of selling my 0311X 2I and getting a 3 UI from somewhere with the same shaft as my 0211s.

I got a 699u 2i back in October. Played 4 rounds with it. Using it mainly off the tee box and loving the bullets I’m hitting with it. Finding it easy to flight high and low. Feel is meh to me but performance and forgiveness is top notch. Finding as my go to club for par 5 approaches because I know I’m going to get it down to the hole and keep it in play unlike my hybrids and woods

I am very impressed with the clubs. I had a couple clubs sent out for me to use during my fitting 699 pro, and the 639mb. They offer demo clubs for basically $100 refundable deposit+ sipping cost. The send out the 6 and 9 iron. They shipped fast. The 6 iron for the 699 had a damaged shaft that they offered to overnight another one unfortunately that was the day of my fitting. They had good flight and felt great. The new level 902 irons just worked better for me. I'm actually waiting for them to launch the 739x hybrid it has two adjustable weights. I'll definitely buying one of them this year. They also are launching TAIII irons made in collaboration with tommy armor the 3rd. They know what they are doing and offer some very good value.  The hybrid will be around $149 this year. Can put two in the bag for the price of one of the big names.

steelhead 9°, rbz 5w, ping awr 2 bc irons, isi irons, or nike vapor irons, cleveland 52°, 58°, 64° 2 ball putter.

Any word on if the TA III or 649 Tour MBs are coming any time soon?  If not might be time to pull the trigger on some New Level 623-Ms.

I believe the raw finish versions of both will be available in the next week or two. Not 100% sure beyond that but the others shouldn't be too far behind. Unfortunately shipments have been getting split up and delayed all over the place.

Well of course they'll be available in a few weeks right after I pulled the trigger on NL 623-M 🤯 (their Super Bowl 15% off promo was too much to resist).

Interesting similarities between 623-M and TA III, other than some different milling on the back heel/toe.  Seems to lend some credibility to those saying these are all outsourced blanks with some custom milling/stamping "finishing touches"?  I do think the extended weight pads on heel/toe of TA III might add to some perimeter weighting increasing MOI/forgiveness.

Comparison pics:

Question to @GolfSub70 if you happen to know - the "porting" on the TA IIIs?  Seems to be random (some possibly weight-filled ala PXG, some just open ports), was this done on the fly to adjust SW while these were in Proto stage, or does it serve some greater purpose and will that be the way it is rolled out for purchase (like tungsten plugs in the toes of long irons)?  Any idea if these will be along the same price line as the 639 MB/CB?  Might be fun to do a shootout between the 2 once they finally come out!

Thanks for the message.  The set shown is TAIII's personal set...so he did some additional porting to get everything exactly to his specs.  The version we'll have available will have the ports on the 3, 4 and 5 irons.  There is some additional toe weighting in the mid/short irons so that you can go at them a bit harder and prevent the left miss on scoring irons.  The TAIII's will be $990 for a 4-W set and come with a full package of cool extras.  The 649 MB Tour that we are releasing will be priced the same as our current CB/MB ($644 for 4-W with no upcharge shafts/grips).  The general head design concept has been around a long time...the weight distribution just flat out works for a forged iron and the better player.

I have to admit I also priced out those New Levels when they had that deal and it was less that 900 for a 7 piece set with MMTs, seemed like a good deal to me, hope you like them. The TAIII looks great too, not that my game is anywhere close to being able to handle them.

It hasn't stop raining. They even closed my course due to it being so wet. That hasn't happen in 15 years. Nothing worse than a new club that is now about a month old with zero hits on it.

You've gotta love living in this area, all it seems to do is rain. I remember how wet it was in 2018, when it set the precipitation record until 2020 rolled in. Screenshot_20210213-202926_Firefox-01.jpeg.687757bffaf49e19ff4b1edc8418f434.jpeg

I live in SW Virginia, a little more than an hour east of Bristol/Kingsport/Johnson City. We had 73 inches in 2020 after having 63 inches in 2018 and 65 inches in 2019. Each year broke the historical record. We average 43 inches per year historically.

It has to slow down or we are going to be in trouble. We have ponding water where nobody has ever seen water before. My kids have been ice skating in my back yard at times this winter.

Been reading a lot about Sub70 after several recommendations. Interested to see/hear if anyone has any feedback of the 739 vs 699. I’m an 18 handicap, which I have lowered dramatically this last year during the pandemic.  I’m currently playing GI Irons (Old Callaway X2 Hot) and don’t mind playing another set of GI Irons but I’m wondering if there is a huge or drastic difference b/w 739 & 699. I’m actually talking to Jason at Sub70 tomorrow, so I’ll ask a ton of questions and sure I’ll get some great feedback but wanted to ask on this thread as well. Thanks in advance!

I would say go with the 699 if you’re improving. I play the 699 pros and love them! They have the classic look and the regular 699’s have more offset, which will help you!

Let us know how your chat goes. I’m in a similar ponder and either set is considerably cheaper than most sets I can get used after customizing for length and lie. Tour Edge seems to be the only other OEM in the ballpark. I’m above an 18 myself, but I can’t see myself using SGI irons for more than a season.
