vandyland 405
I have read this entire thread but didn't see anybody that went into detail (may have missed it) about the 639CB vs 699pro. I am currently demoing the 639CB and I love the looks, feel and feedback it gives but I am probably a shade or two short on the talent required to play them (if interested see thread here ). I have read the website copy and I know that the feel will likely differ significantly going from a forged player's cavity back to an injected, hollow body milled iron but I am trying to move beyond "feel" since that is subjective. BUT, I would like to be able to feel where I missed on the clubface on mishits. That is an issue I have on my Cobra F9s and was wondering if people who have hit both 639CB and 699pro can comment on the differences in feedback on the two as well as maybe spin and ballspeed. Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! I have the 4 utility and the 5 639… there is definitely less feedback from the 699, but you can still feel the impact. They are solid clubs… im a 7 handicap and a decent ball striker and I’d happily play them but I don’t want the distance gains. 2 Quote Mavrik 9 degree - Ventus Black 7X Mavrik 13.5 Degree - Hazardus Smoke Sub70 19 degree - Proforce V2 8F5 Sub70 4u - Proforce V2 8F5 Sub70 5i - DG S400 Adams CMB 6-GW - Project X 6.0 Sub70 54 (286) and 58 (JB Low Bounce) - S300 SeeMore Trimetal Mallet (Custom fit and built... Thanks in advance! I'm hoping someone with experience of both will see your post and chime in. I haven't played either, so I'm no help there. I will say all the hollow bodied irons I've hit, including 2 models I've owned, gave less feedback than muscle backs or small, one piece cavity backs. I am currently playing the original PXG 0211 irons and can tell by feel and sound when I mishit it, but I can only tell where on the face I hit it if it was a HUGE mishit. Another factor is the shaft. Graphite and shafts with dampening inserts will give less feedback. I have an ancient set of Wilson blades that I put prosoft inserts into. I used to be able to pinpoint the mishits with those. With the softening inserts I only get a general idea. 3 Quote 14 of the following: Ping G425 Max Callaway Epic Max 5 wood Cobra F9 Speedback 7/8 wood set at 23.5 degrees Callaway Epic Max 11 wood PXG 0311P Gen. 3 6-GW PXG 0211 5-GW PXG 0211 sand wedge bent to 53 degrees Maltby M Series+ 54 degree Ping Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 degree Ping Glide 3.0 60 degree Evnroll ER2 Ping Sigma 2 Anser

Is it worth it to upgrade to the 949X? Is the face really much hotter? It's a bigger number, so of course it is better /s (honestly no idea, but I'm looking at it for a 4H. I'm torn between a 4H, 4U or a 4i. I need something that gets a bit higher in the air, so I'm leaning hybrid, but I don't know.) You should check out the TXG youtube video on long iron vs hybrid vs fairway wood for flight, spin, etc. It was eye opening to me and the results should have been fairly obvious (iron flights lowest, hybrid mid, fwy wood highest) but the spin was interesting because the irons not only fly low they also have less spin and less steep decent angle so harder to hold greens. I also find that, off a tee, a 4 hybrid is straighter than a 4 iron most of the time.
Jonny_Crash 249
At my skill level, I don't realistically have any hope of holding a green from 220+ all I'm looking for is nGIR (obviously, it makes sense to have the best tool to hold the green). I tend to hit pretty high in general, but it looks like my 5i has a descent angle around 35-38* That isn't giving me a great chance to hold a certain distance as it tends to run quite a bit after landing. So I think perhaps a 4H is the best option for me (and probably to replace my 3U with a 3H as well). The upper end of the bag is a challenge for me to find the right clubs. JFish350 599
Feels soooo god to be able to swing clubs again. I currently have 2 sets of demos. 699 and the 699 pros. I really like the 699’s. Smooth same distance as my current XHot Callaways, but have a better feel and the ball flight is the same. To me easier to work a draw but it takes me a bit to hit a fade with them which I am fine with. I haven’t hit the Pros yet but will either tonight or tomorrow. i think my biggest problem is going to be figuring out the top end of the bag. I won’t have anything from a 4 iron to my driver. The reason I’m in the market for clubs is my bag took a dive and I had 4 of the clubs break. Driver, 1 iron , 4 & 7 irons. a phone call will be made to get suggestions soon. great thread here fellas. 6 Quote Epic GBB driver 10.5 turned down to 9.5 Hzruds 6.5 smoke shaft. I've been eying the JB wedges and am thinking a set of raw ones might be my next wedge purchase. I'm still very skeptical. I'll even say extremely skeptical. I just don't know that there is enough metal to move around in a standard wedge to make much difference on spin or forgiveness. That said, I'm willing to admit that it seems mizuno and ping do have some tech that makes a real difference in the wet so there is that. After my wedge experience this spring I'll definitely agree that bounce /grind makes a huge difference. Read below. I don't know if it is the black finish, or the bounce /sole style on the Sub70 wedges, but I don't hit them fat. And that is why I like them so much. I had some Mac daddy's 2 years ago that I hit fat all the time, got a prior Gen sub 70 wedge last spring and hit it great right from the start. After a year or use and abuse the Sub70 needed replacement. I threw the Mac daddy's back in the back for 3 rounds, and instantly started chunking all wedge shots inside 100y. I tried the Kirkland wedges because that price can't be beat, chunked them for 3 rounds and returned them. Got this set of sub 70s since I had done well with previous one. These arrived and I was able to hit the ball again. I still think if I had any wedge brand with the same bounce and sole as these I would hit them just as well... But maybe not. For whatever reason these have proven to be the best wedges for my swing I've used. I can't say why, but they are. I really like the 2 different wedges, the JB definitely opens up easier for touch shots around the green. The 286 is good for full swings and anything less. Tl:DR - best wedges ever, don't buy anything else 11 Quote WITB: Driver: SIM2 Max 12° - Accra TZ6 M4 FW Wood: F7 17.5° - Fujikura Pro Utility: King Forged 20.5° Utility - Catalyst X Irons: D7 Forged GW-5i - Recoils Wedges: JB 52° , 286 56° Putter: MySpider X Cart: Onewheel XR+
