Any reason why you wouldn't want to use a shaft that has a connector already glued on? That way you can screw the washers directly into the connector. Just asking because I have a shaft that I'll probably never use that has a connector glued on.

Sorry for not getting back to this earlier.

I think that would be the ideal way to go. If I did it again, I'm pretty sure that's what I would do. Seems easier than working with a bunch of epoxy.

On the flip side, you would likely need to cut the shafts from the butt end to make the 45" length. These Adams shafts were 45" stock, so I didn't need any additional butt trimming to match the SuperSpeed length.

Very cool idea and seems like good workmanship on them.  Have you found that you are using them on a regular basis?  Do they seem fairly stable and like they will last?

The first thing I thought about when I saw superspeed was doing something like this.

Thanks! I was very happy with how they turned out, and I was finally able to deliver the set I made for my brother-in-law to him this past weekend.

I have been doing the introductory protocol every other day now for almost a month, except for last week when I was away on a business trip. I have eight sessions remaining in the introductory protocol after yesterday's training. I did take them with me on the business trip because there was a heated range near my hotel. I used them for warming up, basically just taking five swings from light to heaviest, and then three light swings, before hitting balls.

I unfortunately have a slightly strained muscle in my mid-left back, which while it doesn't effect my normal right-handed swings, really hurts during the left-handed swings. I am going to give it a few more days of rest before continuing.

I did order the suggested radar, which I accidentally smashed with one of the sticks two weeks ago. A new screen for it should be here any day. I highly suggest the radar because, as they say, "Feel ain't real." Before I smashed the radar, I had seen awesome progress in numbers, which I outlined in the review thread about them.

As far as construction/long-term stability goes -- I haven't had one break yet. I have bounced a few swings off of the garage floor, one of which took off a good bit of Plasti-dip and created a nice set of sparks. They still feel really solid. Obviously, the disclaimer here is that I'm not responsible for any injuries or damage! 😂

(In all seriousness, SuperSpeed recommends doing the protocol in a safe space with clubs not swinging toward people or other objects. I remove the cars from the garage, close the door and swing away from windows and other breakable objects, just in case.)

Just an FYI...  the standard weights are as follows:

Light (green) 255 grams

Medium (blue) 290 grams

Heavy (red) 335 grams

You can buy club fitter tip weights that screw on from Club Scout in 255 and 454 gram.  You can add lead tape to the 255 to bring the weight up where you want it.  You could also epoxy these to the shaft to avoid them getting loose and flying off.

I'm not going to be able to get $200 approved by the banker/wife, especially with the second baby on the way, so I'm giving this DIY a shot. I'll keep y'all posted but I'm excited about having a project this weekend that doesn't involve mitre saws, heavy sanding, paint or shovels.

These all look great. I am actually working on a set of my own as well.

*my $0.02 to help reduce costing for everyone. I picked up used golf clubs at Goodwill ($2.99ea) and cut the driver head off. Trying to set my club up to interchange weights so i do not have 3 sticks. I also couldn't find 3 used drivers at Goodwill...

Thanks for the inspiration.
I had some 1" steel rod left over from a project.
I got the shafts from DTG also.

Thanks again,

Nice job. I did mine about a year ago but I used 1" brass rod and just milled them to get the proper weights required for each colour. For the shafts I got 3 pulled Ping driver shafts, which I got for free from the local GolfTown. They work just fine, although I think they are a touch shorter than the real sticks because of the shafts being pulls, but I don't care too much about that.

Has anyone found a source for an inexpensive swing speed monitor?  I have been looking on Amazon and ebay but they are all going to be more than the overspeed training sticks.

EDIT - I finally found a source for a new Blue Sports Sensors Swing Radar for $94.00 total with shipping included.

Well there are 2 threads that now have great instructions to DIY your own SuperSpeed sticks.

I changed my SuperSpeed sticks into ONE Stick. My design features removable weights.

Here is my parts list and instructions for the one I built.

GoodWill:

  • driver - $2.99

Lowes:

  • 3/8" ID Fender Washers (100ct) - $16.00
  • 1/4x20x12" threaded rod - $2.00
  • thumb nuts - $1.00
  • JB Weld - $5.00
  • Plasti-Dip - $6.00

Total Cost: $33.00 *(plus some leftover supplies for another stick)

Instructions:

  1. Cut the driver head off of the shaft at the base of the shaft.
  2. Cut the threaded rod to approximately 5"-6" long.
  3. Using the scale, weigh the shaft and the cut piece of threaded rod. Record that value.
  4. Using the scale, weigh 1 washer. Knowing the weight of the 1 washer and the weight of the shaft & threaded rod, we can determine how any washers are needed to meet the the total weight for the light, medium, and heavy sticks.
  5. Using the information from SuperSpeed the green total weight should be about 13% lighter than your driver, blue is 5% lighter, and red is 15% heavier. I have a TM M6 (324.4g) so i used (10) washers for green, (12) washers for blue, and (17) washers for red.
  6. Coat about half of the threaded rod (start from the end that was cut bc the threads may be messed up) in JB Weld and insert into the driver shaft. Set aside to dry.
  7. I used JB Weld to glue each washer to one another for each weight set.
  8. Once the glue had been set (abt 24hrs), I used  a piece of wire to dip each weight set into the plasti-dip can. To dry each dipped weight set, i screwed (3) screws through a board to act as a minimal touching drying rack. About 3 to 4 coats are needed to get a good coating.
  9. Add 1 thumb nut to the threaded rod, add a weight set, and add another thumb nut.

***I need to add a picture of the final design....

DONE.

Change weight sets for changing swing weights.

That's an ingenious design. I guess my question is in the realm of practicality: when you do the SuperSpeed routine, you're constantly switching from light to middle to heavy and back again. How well will this work for that?

I haven't started the routine yet (had a slightly pulled muscle in my shoulder and also going on vacation tmrw). As long as you don't engage a bunch of threads with the bottom thumb nut then it barely takes any time at all to switch out weight sets. Plus gives you a quick breather between swing sets.

It was a way to save a few extra bucks....

If i can find a few more used drivers at Goodwill then i might change over to individual clubs.

@GolfSpy MPR Saving the money on the club will somehow justify paying $100 for a swing speed sensor.... That's my next cost savings project to figure out haha

The one I found above was the best price I found anywhere for a new unit and I promise I looked high and low.
