3. Worst rain you've ever played in - Plumber's Union scramble last summer, got to 14 and it started to sprinkle but quickly turned into a torrential downpour.  We were the last group out and had a great score going so we finished 15-18 at -2.  Many clubs were thrown out of pure accident...

Galway Bay Rain Gear

Looked kinda cold and wet out there at Pebble over the weekend, didn't it?

I'd guess staying warm and dry as a spectator would be pretty important, wouldn't you? And never mind the players!

I'd guess a lot of folks tripled up on pants at Pebble - some long johns, regular pants and them some pull-on rain pants. That's three pair of pants (if you count the long johns). Would just one pair of warm, waterproof pants be a better way to go?

That's what Galway Bay thinks, and they say their pants are just the ticket.

TESTERS WANTED!

Galway Bay came out of nowhere to tie for top honors in MyGolfSpy's Best Rain Gear testing last year. Our testers loved the fact the rain pants were actual pants, with belt loops, pockets, a zipper -  you know, pants - that were also waterproof. the rain jacket was a top performer as well, with plenty of ease of movement, lightweight and snazzy looking.

That's what our testers thought, but we want to know what YOU think. That's why we're looking for FOUR of you to test, review and keep a set of Galway Bay rain gear - fitted, waterproof slacks and a rain jacket (valued at a over $470).

This review opportunity is open to any avid golfer in the US or Canada who's not averse to playing in a little rain.

Hi, I am in Maine and if you can't play in rain you can't play golf here. I use Zero Restriction now with Foot Joy rain gloves and the gear works ok but is while the jacket is pretty good the pants are not great. When it is cold in rain the gear is not so bad but when it is warm it is pretty uncomfortable traps heat and I sweat quite a bit. I play reguardless of rain and last year in a tournament during a deluge, they did not cancil and we won lol.

Foot Joy Dry Joy Pants and Jacket

The worst rain on a golf course was at Portmarnock Links course in Ireland. Only last 30 minutes or so but it was a tropical like downpour with wind. I play in light rain often at home (empty course and fast pace of play suits me) so I use my rain gear regularly.

Forrester's Gore Tex jacket and pants. Bulky compared to what you can get today.

A round at Tiger's Eye in Myrtle Beach in February the year after the course opened. I was the only idiot that played that day and mainly only did it because the  guys I was with said they would give me $100 to go out in it. Torrential downpour where you couldn't see more than 100 yards or so much of the time. There were rivers running through the fairway and I had to keep moving my ball on the greens to areas without running water.

3. Worst rain you've ever played in.  With our short golfing season in Canada, we cannot be topo selective on when we can play.  Sometime it calls for rain and it doesn't so we have to be optimistic.  Rain gear is therefore a necessity and we play in rain of some sort at least 15-20 times per year at a minimum considering I play +100 rounds per year.   Anyway, worst rain I have played in was a combination of heavy rain for the entire 18 holes as well as 30-35 mph winds.  Wind was so strong that it broke 2 of my umbrella's support arms when it was facing into the wind.  Never had that happen before but we could not stop as this was a regional intersectional championship event against 3 other clubs so we play rain or shine as long as the course is still playable.  In summary, my rain gear is well worn and is in need of replacement so would love to be a tester, I'll certainly give it a workout.

Costco $29 rain suit

Lighthouse Sound in Ocean City, Maryland. Winds were coming down the Assawoman Bay at about 35 mph and rain coming in sideways. Drove a long way to play so we were playing no matter what. Crushed a 3 wood on a 145 par 3. Got it a little high in the wind. Came up 50 yards short. We all laughed on our shots.

Zero Restriction top short sleeve with Galway Bay sleeves , Footjoy pants, I had to cut the legs off because they have no proper pant sizes. Footjoy bucket hat.

I played in an outing that rained so hard it was knocking the ball out of the sky about 20 yards short.  The temperature dropped down to about 35.  The fact that the course let the outing start because the storm was predicted for hail was crazy.  The hail started as we drove in from the furthest point away from the club house we could have been.  We took a marshalls cut though and the mud was thick, a group saw us take the cut through and they tried it too and one of their carts got stuck.  The rain was so bad that the cardboard structure in my C-130 golf bag collapsed like old socks.  Thank god I had a change of clothes in the trunk of my car because we wrung out our socks and the water from the four of our socks put 2 inches of water in the sink.

New Brunswick, Canada

Current rain gear is Foot Joy HydroLite Short Sleeve Rain Shirt, and Under Armour Storm Rain Pants

Worst rain experience was at a fun work tourny and it rained so hard for the first 9 holes I went through 2 rain jackets and gave up wearing the rain pants after only a couple holes.  Everything was wet.  Teeing off on the 7th hole, my driver went further than the ball.  LOL.  The grips and gloves were so wet it was difficult hanging onto any club.  That was 9 years ago, and we still talk about me "throwing" my driver that day.

FootJoy & Zero Restriction

Played in the Spring in a COLD driving rain - at one point, the rain came down so hard it was almost sideways.  Played a 125 yard par 3 into the wind and hit my six iron (my 170 yard club) and only made the very front of the green.
