In response to Lacassem's question of favorite courses in Central MA area:

Wachusett in West Boylston - A classic Ross course that's always well maintained, reasonable green fees, a walkable course,  nice spot for post-round beer and a sandwich

Juniper Lakeside course in Northborough - Fun layout, walkable

Blackstone National in Sutton - interesting layout, good prctice facility - range and putting/chipping green

Highfields in Grafton - A little off the beaten path but a fun course to play

Big fan is highfields and wachusett both great courses and for the money you can’t beat it. Blackstone National is very nice very tough but to expensive for what it is (I personally think highfields is more picturesque for almost half the price weekend rate). Have not played lakeside though.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

Played for the first time in my life about 8 years ago at an annual company golf outing. Only played once a year using rental clubs up until last year when I decided to take it seriously. I love the game so decided to invest in a budget (Callaway Edge) set of clubs and take lessons at the local course (Sterling Farms - Stamford, CT). Now I'm really hooked and want to improve my game. I haven't played enough to get an official handicap, but I'm still pretty bad so that can wait.

2. What do you love about golf?

It's a challenge... It takes a lot of time, practice, effort just take get a handle on the basic fundamentals, but it's always a great time. My issue is that none of my close friends play (and if they do, they're not serious about it).

3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

I was shopping around for a golf ball which fit my needs and came across the 2019 Golf Ball Buyer's Guide. I've been a daily visitor to the site ever since.

4. Where are you from? What is your home course?

Originally from NY but recently moved to Stamford, CT. My home course (and where I take lessons) is Sterling Farms in Stamford.

5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

Best - Moderate climate (I hate when the temps get above 85).

Worst - Winter seasons can be extremely brutal.

6. What do you do for a living?

Accounting (Zzzz)... but working in a corporate environment is what brought golf into my life so I'll take it.

Thanks to everyone running the site/forums. I really do enjoy all of the quality content and unbiased reviews. There's nothing like it anywhere.

welcome to the forums!  There's a wealth of information on these forums and a ton of good people.  There's nothing better to do during the "work from home" day than hangout here and talk golf until we can all go play!  Although fair warning, some guys are actually able to still golf.  Come to think of it... is CT closed down?  Last I knew RI was still open for residents.

Thanks!! I've been spending most of my day on here seeing what I could find....

They closed down CT last week just when I was about to have some free time. Hopefully this is over with sooner than later.

Sterling Farms is a beautiful course in Stamford and I've played Tashua Knolls in Trumbull. The staff and grounds at both are fantastic.

I have been playing golf for 45 years,  I became very active in my early 30's and have played regularly since.

I love the game on many levels.  As a player I love the fact that you can never master this game. You always have room to improve and age only increases the opportunity for adjusting expectations and improving on a relative scale

I believe golf exposes who a person is.  You can not "hide".  You can learn more about a person in one round of golf than you might learn in years of casual contact.  The "cheater" is exposed, as is the "whiner or excuse maker" as is the "great guy" the person with integrity, the person you can trust with your wife and your wallet while you are away for a month.  Many of my lifelong friendships originated on a golf course.

I have been following My Golf Spy for years.  I think you are truly providing a service to the consumer cutting past the hype and exposing the realities beyond the marketing.   I read the postings constantly, listen to the podcasts, read the annual reviews etc.  I think this is a great source of high level golf related informaiton

I am brought to My Golf Spy seeking information, true reviews, and connection to other informed golf enthusiasts

I am from Colonie NY, I am a member at Colonie Country Club and have played most courses in my region over the past 40 years.

The best thing about my region is the access to a wide variety of courses, designed by some of the legends such as Ross, Mac Kensie, Tillinghhast, MacDonald, Raynor, Emmet etc etc.  This area has a rich history  and the courses reflect this history.  Courses such as The Sagamore, Glens Falls Coutry Club, Taconic, Dorset Field Club, Equinox, Ekwanoc, Wolfreds Roost, Troy CC, Mohawk, Edison, and recent additions such as Colonie CC, Saratoga National, Links at Unionvale, Okemo, and so many others feature works by some of the best golf architects past and present.  This is a great region to play golf.

The downside without question is the short season

I am a semi retired consultant

My user name lacks originality as it is basically my initials. My lifelong nickname is Smitty

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?  Started playing in 1998 and was pretty good out of the gate, shooting in the high 80s.  Got to low 80s and a few 70s within a couple of years. At one point I got to 5.9 with a lousy but repeatable heavily lagged swing and a bit of athleticism.  Right now I'm a 10.5 and determined to get into single digits.  Pretty sure I can this season, but with coronavirus this season has not yet come for New England.

  2. What do you love about golf?  It occupies my very busy and over-analytical brain and it's a beautiful game that is played as much between the ears as with the increasingly inflexible body I have.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?  I follow MyGolfSpy on Instagram and love the attitude and the work being done.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?  I live in Paxton, MA and play two courses regularly, Kettle Brook in Paxton and Wachusett Country Club in West Boylston.  Both are very good courses and challenging as well.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Worst is the short season, about six months at best.  Best is the beauty of the many fine courses, none of which is easy.

  6. What do you do for a living?  I sell construction equipment and manage other who do the same.Waterville.thumb.jpg.b659a5cc8b168f87632bdd4ae1e66823.jpg

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?  Played some when I was young.  Worked at a course and played a lot between 1995 and 2005.  Bad knees led to my not playing much between 2007 and 2017.  Started playing a lot (2 or 3 rounds a week) in 2018.  Currently a 19.8.  Hope to be down to 16 by the end of the year.

  2. What do you love about golf?  I enjoy being active, along with the challenge that golf requires.  I typically walk early mornings at Hales during the week.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?  I'm kind of an equipment geek, so I've ended up on MyGolfSpy numerous times going research and checking the for sale forums.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?  I live in Mt Washington Valley, NH.  I belong to a nice 9 hole course called Hales Location.  I typically play at North Conway CC at least once a week and play the Donald Ross course at the Mt Washington Hotel on Sunday afternoons.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Great courses, no winter golf.

  6. What do you do for a living?  Self employed in the custom ski apparel business.  I import two lines of custom skiwear from Italy that I sell to teams and clubs in North America.

  7. How’d you pick your user name?  it's my name...

How do you get all your clubs listed with your profile?  Looks cool and is very informative.  In fact, I also have the TaylorMade P790s and love them.  Use graphite shafts because of recurring tendinitis in my right elbow.  They help a lot.

So go to the top right and click account, then account settings. Should pop up and click “signature”....can edit however you want and at the bottom of the emojis has the different brand tags

Hey all, new-ish to the member boards and excited to see what's up.  Originally from Western Mass and live in Northern Vermont now.  I play golf all throughout New England: Here in VT, Northern CT, Western Mass, Central Maine, Southern Mass/Cape Cod...

  • I've played since high school though more or less fell out of it for a while, back to playing more but not actually well

  • I love getting outside, hanging out with friends, drinking a couple beverages and just having fun

  • I worked for a ski sales company and am currently a Sommelier so learning more about handmade products and the best, personalized items always drive me

  • Home Course currently is Stowe Country Club though I play Franconia in Springfield and Marion in Marion, MA a few times a year too

  • I love the beautiful scenic mountain courses but hate not being able to play in the winter and honestly, the courses here are just a LOT to walk 18 2 or 3 times a week, I'd love slightly flatter courses to walk

  • I work in restaurants, currently as a Sommelier in a resort town

  • LOVE the SOX!

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I've been playing for 8 or 9 years now. I don't keep an handicap but on a good day can shoot low 90's.

  2. What do you love about golf? Being outside and the constant struggle to get better.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I stumbled upon the site and kind of became addicted to it.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Western Mass. I play a lot of rounds at Quaboag but go other places as well especially when I travel.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? The best thing is the change of seasons and how it affects the courses. The worst thing is playing in the winter mostly when there's snow on the ground.

  6. What do you do for a living? I work on a container ship and travel around the world on it.

  7. How’d you pick your user name? The Pat's and my hs football number

It's a nice change from some of the other courses around. Much older lots of uneven lies and elevation changes. The greens are usually in good shape along with the fairways. They do have some thin/ bare spots mostly where the slope is pretty steep. It's close to my house and never crowded so it's easy to get a quick 9 in.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? 16 years  What’s your handicap or normal score? 80's

  2. What do you love about golf? It's a love hate relationship. I love being outside and the hope of birdies and hitting those shots that you can look back on and be like oh yeah that's why I love golf.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I know a couple spies. I've been on spy for 2 years but I'm going to start being involved now that I have a little more time.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course? I'm from western MA but I live in Attleboro now. I guess my home course is Chemawa golf course since I'm in a league there, but I like to travel around and play new courses.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Golf in MA is great for a limited amount of time. Spring is super windy, cold and rainy. Summer is great, humid but great. Fall is nice but then you have to try and find you ball under millions of leaves.

  6. What do you do for a living? Air Force reservist and civilian I do pipe fitting for fire suppression systems.

  7. How’d you pick your user name? Just an abbreviation of my full name

Gratefully,

Jordan Churchill

Overall I really enjoy it, been a member there for 7 years.  They have a very active member base and I like the layout a lot.  I’m a shorter hitter so I find it pretty challenging but for the longer hitters it will probably play on the easier side.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?
I’ve been playing golf for 30 years, my GHIN is 4.7, normal score 74-80.

  2. What do you love about golf?                   I’ve been addicted to golf since 8th grade, love that you can compete with others or just yourself and the course.  Really fell in love with competing while playing D1 golf.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?                    Was brought back onto MyGolfSpy to look at new clubs, what brought me to it last time as well.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?                                             Grew up just north of NYC, my teaching pro was Lighthouse Harry Cooper.  Now I live in Newburyport, Ma.  My home course is a private top 100 which I love playing.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?                         Love spring and fall golf with the cooler temps, hate the snow in the winter.

  6. What do you do for a living?                     Partially retired at 40, now Invest

  7. How’d you pick your user name?             My name
