Hello Fellow Spies. I'm not new to the site, but this the first time I've posted to this thread. I usually go to other threads to read and comment. I've been playing for 55 years. I didn't really take it seriously until around 1975 when I was in my mid 20s. I live in Charlotte and play at Myers Park Club. I joined there in 1983. My current index is 8.9 thanks to some recent good rounds. I usually fluctuate between 9 and 12 from Summer to Winter. I truly love the game and play two or three times a week year round. I've been retired for five years. Golf is my main hobby along with gardening, reading and movies. I realize at age 70, I'm playing the back nine of life. Hopefully, I can keep going as long as this old body will let me. I moved up a set of tees to 6250 yards when I turned 65.  Most of the guys in my regular group are fairly healthy too. We all know moving up to 6000 yards is coming in a few years. Thanks for reading my story (if you did). I look forward to reading all your posts in the future.

PS I forgot to mention that I'm a recovering club nut. I'm try to not buy anything but balls and gloves for the rest of the year.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I started playing golf about 20 years ago.  Got injured 5 years ago and started picking up the sticks again about 1.5 years ago or so.  I usually shoot low to mid 80s depending on the course now.

  2. What do you love about golf?  I enjoy spending time with my son who enjoys golf.  I enjoy being able to put technology aside for 4 hours and just look at the beauty of what's in front of me.  I enjoy the friendships that are developed on the golf course which are then taken off the course.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I follow MGS closely and faithfully listen to No Putts Given

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Henderson, KY.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Great Spring and Fall golf.  Summer can be brutal and winter is a mixed bag.

Hello from Daytona Beach. Been a reader for years, just never joined the forum. Been playing since high school, but formerly residing in MA I didn't play all that much. Been playing regularly for 6 months now, brought my cap down from 15 to 9 so far. A stroke per month now that I think of it and that's A-OK with me.

I've been on these forums for a while, but don't believe I ever filled this out.  Here goes...

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?  Played my first round on Senior skip day of high school.  that seems like 312 years ago.  Current hdcp is 15.0

  2. What do you love about golf?  The beautiful landscapes, the camaraderie, the competition; whether against another player or just the golf course.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?  I previously worked with GolfSpy BarbaJo, he dragged me in here, LOLZ

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?  Originally from Michigan (kind of obvious...) Now live between Greenville & Clemson, SC  My "home" courses are either Southern Oaks in Easley or Saluda Valley in Williamston

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Nothing too bad really; slow play I suppose.  Good things are the weather, the number of courses and the usually reasonable greens fees.

  6. What do you do for a living?  Fire Protection Engineer

  7. How’d you pick your user name?  University of Michigan, baby!  Go Blue!!

"Where'd it go?"  "Right in the Lumberyard..."

Greetings from the Bluegrass State, where there are more barrels of bourbon than there are people!  I'm happy to finally register at MGS after years of lurking and reading.  I'm a former FGIer if anyone remembers that forum from years past.  Learned a lot about golf and clubmaking there and as a result, for many years my entire bag was self-built clubs.  Lots of SMT drivers (still in the garage), Wishon putters, and still in the bag, my Snake Eyes 675XC irons.  Lack of time and interest in clubbuilding has seen that drop off and my bag is slowly becoming OEM (except for the irons, so far).
Dave

Greetings Crankky,

Hello everyone, my name is Tanner and I am currently finishing up my business management degree at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have been playing golf on and off for about 10 years now. I first got into golf when my older brother started playing for his high school team and I wanted to follow in his footsteps. It has always been an activity for me and my two brothers to bond on a Saturday morning and that is the thing I love most about golf. I currently shoot in the upper 90's but I am starting to play more as I get older so hopefully that will improve! I just recently discovered MyGolfSpy and look forward to being part of the community! Attached is a photo of me and my two brothers playing in mine and my younger brothers first scramble tournament.

Hi everyone, very much looking forward to conversing with the groups, my quick responses to the initial forum questions are below:

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf since 1993, my current handicap is +1 (on a good day)

  2. What do you love about golf? I love everything about the game, the challenge (and the frustration), more so the time I get to spend outside with friends and fellow competitors!

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? Have been following MyGolfSpy for several years and wanted to join the crew and chat about everything golf!

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course? I'm from England originally but have been living in the states since 1998 when I came over to play collegiate golf at Clemson (Tigers all the WAY). My home course in England is the Belfry and my course here is Sedgefield Country Club.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best is the number of courses to play, worst is the depressing humidity during the summer months!

  6. What do you do for a living? I am a VP of E-Commerce for 4 furniture companies

  7. How’d you pick your user name? It's a name I have had since college......very long story!

Great to see another Tiger on the boards.  Welcome to the forum!

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I have been playing golf consistently since I was 10 years old. My handicap is currently a Three (3), and has been lower in the past whenever I could play more often.

  2. What do you love about golf? I love the peacefulness of it. Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) said it best when he was referring to the gridiron, "Yeah, this is my sanctuary right here. All this hat red and turmoil swirling around us, but this...this is always right."

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I have always trusted the Reviews and read the forums, but now I would love to participate as well. I feel like I would feel further invested into this community and my experience could only grow from my interactions with other spies.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Campbellsville, Kentucky. Campbellsville Country Club, the course where JB Holmes grew up.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best would be the Bermuda fairways and climate allow courses to be played much of the year. However, since they are Bermuda, they take longer to get green and lush in the springtime and brown up whenever the first cold front comes through.

  6. What do you do for a living? Attorney who owns a general practice law firm.

  7. How’d you pick your user name? When I attended the University of Kentucky, I had the pleasure of being the University Wildcat Mascot from 2009 through 2011.

Thank you very much, I am glad to be here.

My family has a place on 30a so I am down that way (usually, without COVID) multiple times a year.

Hello Southeast—glad to be here. Robert B. based in WS-NC.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? A long damn time. 😉 Seriously though, since I was about 8, so 40+ yrs. What’s your handicap or normal score? Up and down over the years, playing a 10-12 right now.

  2. What do you love about golf? Being on the course and in nature. Thinking through the shots. Camaraderie—really enjoying being on the course with friends, old and new.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Sharing about golf. Connecting with others that love the game. Do you already know any other Spies? Nope.

  4. Where are you from? Winston Salem, NC What is your home course? Don't have a single home course. Play a lot of the public courses in the area.

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Best things—a lot of challenging, beautifully designed courses. Just a couple of hours from The Home of American Golf. Hot, humid summer days in July and August.

  6. What do you do for a living? Currently work as a designer and marcom strategist—will always be a designer at heart. Also currently completing my Masters Degree in Classical Chinese Medicine (Acupuncture and Chinese Body Work). Hope to be of service to others, helping them live their best, healthy lives.

  7. How’d you pick your user name? I really have come to enjoy the walk and being in nature—that has become the most important thing about my golf experiences. And hey, who doesn't want to grab a few birdies here and there.
