Don't forget to check out our Community Map for members close by and course reviews!
https://forum.mygolfspy.com/communitymap/

In addition be sure to do your own course reviews so others know what courses are worth going to and what ones should be avoided if in the area!

https://forum.mygolfspy.com/topic/49345-2022-mgs-forum-changes/ has a guide as to how to add your marker and course reviews!

Welcome aboard Kickinchickins, I came up to Myrtle Beach for 20+ years for a company tournament.  Lots of fine courses there, I have probably played 25 to 40 of them over the years and all were good to great.  You need to look up Big Stu on the board, he is a hoot and all around nice guy, he is a treasure trove of information about the area, especially about the courses.

Glad to have found this forum instead of something on social media!!!

My name is Jimmy and I live in North Central Florida. I started playing golf back around 1997 and managed to get to an 11 handicap when I lived in the Fort Myers area (undoubtedly because there is a course around every corner!) I took a break around 2006 and have rediscovered my love for golf this year. So I'm hitting it hard and have a goal of becoming a single digit golfer.

I've had Ping Eye2's in my bag for a couple of decades and have always loved them, but after hitting some other clubs, I have fallen in love with the new Hogan irons and woods. I will be making the switch as soon as they finish building them and ship them to me. Absolutely can't wait. In the mean time, I'm just practicing and playing as much as my job allows me to and for as long as the sun stays up 🙂

Glad to have you on board. Ping Eye 2's were the clubs back in the day and Ping makes some excellent clubs. I would look at getting some newer clubs and you will get to that single digit h/c soon.

Wow what a long time it has been. I haven't been on here in about 2 years. I am back now after a long and draining divorce and custody battle. It is a a very long story but well worth the struggle in the end. I am finally getting back on the course...oh how I have missed this beautiful game. A little update on myself...I live in Jacksonville, FL now and will be retiring from the military next year. I am hoping to find a great job in Pensacola area. I have majority custody of all 5 of my kids, so as you can expect during the school year I am only able to play about two times a month, but with summer around the corner I plan to get back to my old self again granted a much happier and less stressed person. I missed the forums and MyGolfSpy very much and I hope to reconnect with all my old friends on here again.

"Obviously my iron play is incredible, and when I get going I can get hot, but this course just fits my eye. The shaping of the holes, and just a couple of the doglegs, I'm able to shape shots."

Hello! I recently joined. Found the forum when I was researching equipment. Answers to the suggested questions below:

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? - I've played on and off since my early 20s. I'm now in my early 40's and have decided to really focus on the game as my primary recreation/hobby especially since my son also likes to play and will be off to college after just one more year of high school.

What do you love about golf? - I love being outdoors and working at something to get better. Not to mention there is nothing like the feel of hitting a great shot!

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?  I found the site/forum when researching equipment. I was thinking about getting new irons since my Callaway X20s seem to be missing the 9 and my my PW was in pieces. The PW has been repaired and I will play with these until I develop a semi-consistent swing and then get fitted.

Where are you from? What is your home course? I'm from Michigan, lived in Florida, and now reside in Winston-Salem, NC. I was a member at Oak Valley a couple years ago and will consider joining a course as I start to play again on a regular basis.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?  Golf in NC is pretty great. Not far from a great variety of courses down by the coast and towards the mountains.

What do you do for a living? I used to be an embedded software engineer, but then went to law school. I am now a lawyer focusing on intellectual property, litigation, and technology contract negotiations.

How’d you pick your user name? While in college my good friend and eventually my best man would make up nicknames based on my last name and eventually settled on Hobert. I have used it ever since in forums, video games etc.

Speaking of it being a small town, I used to work for that website. I covered local sports when I was younger and then was the Producer/Director for their live shows. I know who your brother is but have never met him. Glad to have you on board!

Hi everyone!

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

    • I've only just begun. I've taken a few lessons, hit a couple dozen buckets of balls at a range, and I played 9 holes (very poorly).

    • I'd say my handicap is currently somewhere between 31 and 500.

  2. What do you love about golf?

    • Golf is challenging, yet kinda fun. I'm either really excited when I finally hit that great shot, or contemplating dropping my clubs off at Goodwill on the way home.

    • I like being outdoors since my job is staring into monitors all day.  I love to take a break from writing code or whatever I'm doing that day and get some fresh air and exercise.

    • Everyone I've met in golf related activities has been very friendly and helpful.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

    • I don't remember how I found golfspy. I think product reviews search results.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?
    • Buford, GA.
    • I go to Sugar Hill Golf Club and Chicopee Woods
  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?
    • The humidity here is ridiculous! The heat can be oppressive in the summer months, but you can also golf most of the year.
    • The bugs can be pretty bad at times.
  6. What do you do for a living?

    • I am the Virtualization Architect for a major university hospital system in the Atlanta area.

  7. How’d you pick your user name?

    • I used the one my parents gave me!  😉

Hi everyone. New member here.

1) Picked up golf when I was 18, played in college, stopped playing a couple of times along the way, but have been at it regularly for the last three years or so. Current handicap is probably around a 6 - I shoot 76-77 fairly regularly but have been struggling to get over that hump.

2) The challenge. Every shot is different. Your brain likes to get in the way. It's about learning to control your thoughts, emotions, and expectations.

3) Instagram. If I know another GolfSpy, I don't know it.

4) I like in Bradenton, Florida, which is in the Sarasota area. Currently practicing/playing out of Heritage Harbour.

5) Best thing in my region: you can play year-round and there are a lot of courses to choose from. It's super cheap to play in the summer. Worst: it can be crowded (especially in snowbird season) and a lot of the public courses aren't in very good shape.

6) Human Resources.

7) I live in the Tampa Bay area.

New member, what's going on.

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

    1. Close to 20 years now, handicap is 1.5.

  2. What do you love about golf?

    1. The creativity and challenge. No round or shot is ever identical. The game can never be tamed.

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

    1. Equipment reviews mostly, used to be a major equipment junkie, and now finding myself getting back to that point.

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?

    1. Upstate SC, Preserve at Verdae

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

    1. No shortage of great courses, all with different variations. Mountain courses, links style, normal American, etc. Worst thing is a shortage of good public course options. Had numerous shut down for suburb developments, making the few we have absolutely stacked nearly every day.

  6. What do you do for a living?

    1. Outside Sales Engineer for a large industrial equipment and machinery company.

  7. How’d you pick your user name?

    1. Dont' know if I should answer this one truthfully.
